Preparing foster youth for a future that works
About us
United Friends of the Children empowers current and former foster youth on their journey to self-sufficiency through service-enriched education and housing programs, advocacy, and consistent relationships with a community of people who care. UFC has two direct service departments: Housing and Education. The Pathways Program provides transition-aged youth with housing and support services as they seek to obtain stable and secure housing and employment. The College Readiness Program provides seventh through twelfth grade foster youth with academic counseling and support to help them graduate from high school and attend a four-year college. The College Sponsorship Program provides academic, personal and financial support to foster youth to help them graduate from a four-year college. Our goal is that the youth in our programs not only survive, but that they thrive.

✨ Hero of the Month: Terrica Smith ✨ From overcoming immense challenges as a former foster youth to reshaping entire communities, Terrica Lynn Smith embodies strength and determination. Despite the hardships she faced in foster care, Terrica turned her pain into power, building a multi-million-dollar real estate empire that revitalizes neighborhoods and creates opportunities for others. Terrica is a trailblazer as Louisiana’s youngest female developer of a mixed-use community, with a portfolio surpassing $60M. She has also spearheaded over $50M in projects and received recognition at the White House. Her journey shows that being a foster youth does not define your future—it’s what you build from your experiences that truly matters. Thank you, Terrica, for inspiring foster youth everywhere to dream big and persevere. 💛 #HeroOfTheMonth #FosterCareSuccess #Inspiration
