The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration has announced $635 million in grants to support the deployment of over 11,500 EV charging ports and alternative fueling stations across 27 states, four Tribal territories, and the District of Columbia. Funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the grants aim to advance former President Biden’s goal of 500,000 publicly accessible EV chargers by 2030 while fostering investments in hydrogen and natural gas fueling infrastructure. This round of funding includes $368 million for community projects and $268 million for corridor fast-charging networks, with 67% of the awards directed toward disadvantaged communities as part of the Justice 40 Initiative. The investments reflect a nationwide effort to create a resilient, equitable, and accessible zero emission transportation network. By leveraging federal funding alongside private sector investments, the initiative accelerates the adoption of EVs and alternative fuel technologies, creating jobs and supporting local economies. These projects also align with national strategies for transportation decarbonization, reducing freight-related emissions, and strengthening the clean energy transition. This announcement brings the total number of states awarded Charging and Fueling Infrastructure grants to 44, advancing a cleaner, more inclusive transportation future.
