According to investors’ reports, the country’s durian export experienced a 7.8–fold increase compared to 2022, accounting for nearly 50% of its total fruit and vegetable shipment value. This success is largely attributed to strong demand from China, where durian is considered a luxury fruit and a creative culinary ingredient. In November 2024, Chinese durian imports totaled 1.53 million tonnes valued at $6.83 billion, marking a 9.4% increase year-over-year. Vietnam commanded 47% of this lucrative market, closely trailing Thailand's leading position. Durian has become a trending phenomenon among China's middle class, with various innovative products such as durian hot pot, durian bread, and themed buffets. According to Zulkifli, Indonesia is currently only permitted to export durian paste to China, typically used in ice cream production. This processing is not only time-consuming but also leads to lower prices. In the past, large quantities of durians from Central Sulawesi were re-exported to China via Thailand, significantly reducing potential profits for Indonesian growers. As a result, the Indonesian government hopes to negotiate the necessary procedures to allow growers to directly export fresh whole durians to China shortly. 𝐌𝐃𝐔𝐑𝟖𝟖 𝐃𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐕𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐑𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐬 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐫 (𝐌𝐒𝟖𝟖) ~ The durian breed, the MDUR88 variety, developed by researchers from the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI), has been rebranded as Super (MS88). The announcement was made during a recent visit by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, to the Duriotourism Agro-Tourism farm in Kuala Kangsar. The MDUR88 variety was introduced in 1992 by cross-breeding the D10 and D24 parent strains. In his statement, Mohamad Sabu also informed that the ministry and MARDI are encouraging farmers to plant MS88, including by providing free seedlings. This move is expected to help stabilize production and meet the growing market demand, especially globally. 𝐉𝐃 𝐋𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐋𝐚𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐳𝐡𝐞𝐧-𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐤𝐨𝐤 𝐅𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 ~ JD Logistics, also known as JINGDONG Logistics, has officially launched a new international air cargo route connecting Shenzhen, China, with Bangkok, Thailand. Operated by JD Airlines, the maiden flight departed Shenzhen at 10 AM on January 3, 2025, carrying a full load of cross-border e-commerce goods to Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok. The route will be operated thrice weekly, catering to cross-border transportation needs. It primarily facilitates the shipment of Chinese products such as electronics, apparel, small appliances, and industrial manufacturing items, to Thailand, while enabling the export of Thai seafood and fruits to China. In October last year, JD Airlines launched a cargo route between Shenzhen, China, and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, operating two to five weekly flights. This route not only facilitates the transport of e-commerce goods but also supports the shipment of fresh products from Malaysia to China. Notably, cold chain solutions are employed for durian transportation. Flights transporting durians depart Malaysia in the evening and arrive in Shenzhen at night, where the durians are promptly cleared through customs. By the following morning, fresh Malaysian durians are delivered to supermarkets and fresh produce markets across South China, completing the journey in as little as 24 hours. 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐢 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐟𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡~In November, Thailand’s exports totaled 25.6 billion USD, reflecting an 8.2% year-on-year growth, according to the Trade Policy and Strategy Office under the Ministry of Commerce. Imports during the same period reached 25.8 billion USD, a modest increase of 0.9%, resulting in a trade deficit of 224.4 million USD. The export sector experienced significant growth, largely driven by technology products, particularly computers and components, which recorded a remarkable 40.8% increase over an eight-month upward trajectory. Agricultural and food exports also performed strongly, with rubber exports rising by 14.1% and fresh, frozen, and dried fruits achieving an impressive 44.8% growth.
