📣 Over 100 leaders, nonprofits, and volunteers filled every seat—and then some—at Trinity Episcopal Church on November 18 for the first meeting of the Buncombe County Long Term Recovery Group (LTRG). 🌟 This marks a huge step forward in addressing the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. With 82,000+ FEMA cases in Buncombe County, recovery will take years. But in that room, the spirit of collaboration and unity was stronger than ever. The LTRG focuses on personal, community-driven recovery—helping individuals and families rebuild their lives. When Disaster Struck, Our Volunteer Community United 🌟 In the days after Hurricane Helene, our streets were filled with debris, our hearts heavy with uncertainty. Yet, amid the devastation, neighbors became family, and strangers became friends. 💪💙 UWABC stepped up, launching a Volunteer Recruitment Center in just 3 days to connect helpers with those who needed it most. The result? 355 volunteers, 1,742 hours of service, and countless lives touched. This effort wasn’t just about recovery—it was about the power of connection. 🌟 A Memorable Visit from United Way Worldwide's Angela Williams 🌟 This past Saturday, we had the privilege of hosting Angela Williams, President and CEO of United Way Worldwide, as she toured some of the hardest-hit areas of WNC, including the Swannanoa Valley. Angela met with Megan Davis, Assistant Principal at Owen Middle School, and Josh Wells, Community School Coordinator, to learn about the transformative impact of Community Schools in the Owen district. For over six years, this initiative has fostered incredible community growth and resilience.
