Prematurity is preventable, and with the right care and resources, we can make a significant difference. Organizations such as Lwala Community Alliance, Project ECHO, Black Mamas Matter Alliance, Inc. (BMMA), Urban Institute, AFRICAN AMERICAN BREASTFEEDING NETWORK INC, Children's Wisconsin and others are making strides in maternal health to make sure that every baby has a healthy start. The GE HealthCare Foundation is proud to support them.
Behind every premature baby's journey lies a constellation of dedication, love, and innovation. 💜 "Every detail counts... these babies may not speak, but they communicate through gestures and behavior." • Dr. Lescure, Neonatologist at Toulouse University Hospital, France 💜 "By catching abnormalities early, I can quickly refer women to facilities equipped with NICU services, giving mothers and their newborns the best chance for a healthy future." • Dianah Awuor Juma, ultrasound technician at Lwala Community Hospital, Kenya 💜 "My twins and I might not be alive today without access to the technologies we provide." • Megan Hibma, GE HealthCare Senior Strategy Manager and mother of twins born at 34 weeks 💜 "Project ECHO is teaching frontline health care workers across 11,000 islands how to use portable ultrasound devices to detect congenital heart defects." • Dr. Sanjeev Arora, Founder and Executive Director, Project ECHO 💜 "With the right personnel and advanced technology, along with the involvement of the family, we can help children achieve better outcomes." • Nonqaba Cecilia Makiwane, Neonatologist at Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital, South Africa This World Prematurity Day, we celebrate the caregivers who make miracles possible and the technologies that help write countless stories of hope. #WorldPrematurityDay2024 #NeonatalCare #Healthcare

To close this week’s spotlight on ECHO’s diabetes work, we share Jessica Kirk’s story. Kirk is an endocrinology nurse manager at The University of New Mexico, and she is living with diabetes. Growing up in rural New Mexico, Kirk did not have access to community-based diabetes care, which inspired her to become a nurse and join the New Mexico Endocrinology ECHO program. As an ECHO-trained provider, she brings life-changing diabetes treatment strategies to rural and underserved communities.
