Exciting news from the UNO Juvenile Justice Institute! We’re thrilled to announce JJI's partnership with JBS International and the U.S. Department of Justice on the initiative “Building Continuums of Care to Support Youth Success.” With over $17 million in federal grants awarded to 23 jurisdictions across the U.S., including Douglas County, NE, they aim to prevent juvenile crime and support at-risk youth through a holistic approach. This initiative not only seeks to improve local frameworks but also offers incredible opportunities for UNO students to gain hands-on experience and make a real impact in the community! Yet another highlight from this year's American Society of Criminology meeting. Dr Kulig, Dr. Hashimi, and graduate students Kaitlyn Swanberg and Valeria Torres-Rivera organized a panel that provided an overview of their current study, "An Assessment of Labor Trafficking in Nebraska." Presentations ranged from a review of extant research on labor trafficking and the process of conducting this assessment to presenting preliminary findings from the study. UNO SCCJ's presence at ASC amplified the department's national impact. Keep up the great work!

It is our honor to announce...Dr. Reyna Reyes-Nunez (Liz) A hearty congratulations goes to Liz, who successfully defended her dissertation defense this week. Her dissertation was titled: Women and Climate Change Policy in Latin America through the Advocacy Coalition Framework, and her findings highlight the pivotal role of feminist principles in shaping women’s advocacy, driving both individual actions and collective efforts. Dr. Reyes-Nunez, an instructor with UNO's Emergency Management Department, defended her dissertation to her committee including UNO's Dr. Yu-Che Chen, Dr. Jodi Benenson, Dr. Cristian Dona, and past UNO faculty, Dr. Tom Jamieson who is now with Victoria University of Wellington. She is our 74th graduate of our PHD program, which started in 1995. We couldn't be prouder of Dr. Reyes-Nunez and we are anticipating the incredible work, research, and expertise she will bring to the field as she starts on her journey with her PhD.🎈🎈
