This step involves selecting specific, measurable targets for #urbannature that are aligned with the long-term vision. Targets could include metrics such as area of natural space, tree canopy, species diversity and more. By setting interim and final targets, it's possible to measure progress and adjust the strategy as needed. 1️⃣7️⃣ pilots form the heart 💖 of the SPADES project. Working together with researchers, spatial planners, and soil scientists, they are collaborating to integrate soil into spatial planning (and vice versa!). This work is a key step towards achieving the goals of the #SoilMission. 👣We took a big step last week in Frankfurt, where partners gathered to start developing the SPADES Diagnostic Workbook. This tool will guide pilots through the process of evaluating their local contexts, identifying gaps, and setting ambitious targets. 🤩What's more, pilots will provide feedback on the workbook, so that we can share a tested and improved version with regions beyond the project. We are committed to supporting communities across (and beyond!) Europe in making soil the default in spatial planning processes. “One book to structure them all?” In the Frankfurt meeting the #SPADESforsoil consortium discusses how to bridge the realms of soil and planning in one, singular workbook that structures the diagnosis for the 17 SPADES pilot cases, situated across different territorial contexts with varying soil challenges. While confusion seems to be lurking in the shadows, the partners plough through and learn about the various perspectives around the table as they create an integrated workbook. Instituut voor Landbouw, Visserij- en Voedingsonderzoek (ILVO) researchers Hans Vandermaelen and Jeroen De Waegemaeker are happy to let a helping hand and to reflect on the workbook from a rural planning perspective.
