We spent some thinking time over the holidays trying to recreate an old The Brookings Institution study that assessed high growth company density by metro area from 2011-2017 based on data from the Inc. Magazine 5000. Why? Someone asked: “Are there really more high-growth companies (in the Southeast) than in the past? My bet is most of the growing is Boomers coming to retire, not build venture-grade startups.” Before I dive into the data, it should be noted that this is not an academic study and is not sponsored by anyone other than our curious little brains.
