For months, Timothy Clark, RLA and I have been thinking deeply about how best to support New England communities in proactive planning to keep people living along our coasts safe from rising seas and intensifying storms through intentional community-driven relocation. This week, we brought that conversation to a group of 50+ people in an interactive session at the Restore America's Estuaries summit. We’re just starting to go through the extensive notes from the breakout sessions, and I’m so heartened to see that one of the common themes across all of the groups is creative brainstorming about how best to support and resource people and their communities as they make life-changing decisions about where to live and how to respond to the risks they face. Thank you so much to Alison Branco, Kim Starbuck, and Jessica Brunacini, PhD for your insightful and informative video presentations as part of our session! Climate Adaptation Scientist Emma Gildesgame and TNC's Southeastern Connecticut Program Director, Tim Clark, presented this week at Restore America's Estuaries Summit (#RAESummit) about reimagining our coasts to keep people safer and expand opportunities for restoration! More than 50 people joined them to discuss opportunities, barriers and resources for proactive relocation and restoration away from high risk flood areas. They plan to collect the takeaways into a summary document to guide future action. #climateadaptation #flooding #coastalrestoration #coastalresilience
