Employees with the Ohio Asian Longhorned Beetle Cooperative Eradication Program volunteered their time and materials to plant, grow, and distribute trees for the Program’s first tree giveaway. The program gave residents 283 trees! Staff developed a plan to grow non-host trees to give to residents, partnering with the U.S. Forest Service for funding and by receiving small grant from Taking Root, a non-profit organization that works to restore forests. The Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Region Council of Governments offered its online registration system. The goal is to expand the nursery and work with community partners so replanting efforts can continue long after the beetle is eradicated. The next tree giveaway will be in the fall of 2025. https://lnkd.in/gbYC62QK
