When modeling existing conditions, two essential standards lead the way: The U.S. Institute of Building Documentation's Level of Accuracy (LOA) Specification and the BIM Forum's Level of Development (LOD) Specification. These standards work together to define the precision required and the detail level needed to represent existing conditions accurately. The LOA and LOD documents are designed to align closely, making interoperability across the industry — between software, programs, and standards — much more seamless. Both specifications are available for free download at usibd.org and bimform.org, making it easier for teams to follow best practices in accuracy and consistency when working with as-built conditions. Which standards or specifications have been most helpful for your team when working with existing conditions? #LevelofAccuracy #LevelofDevelopment #BuildingDocumentation

It is with great sorrow the USIBD would like to recognize the loss of a true industry icon and pioneer, Ben Kacyra. Ben was instrumental in the invention of the laser scanner and the creation of CyArk the foundation to digitally preserve world heritage sites. At our Symposium in 2022, the USIBD awarded Ben Kacyra its Industry Pioneer Pinnacle Award for his contribution to the early development of the Building Documentation Industry. You can learn more about Ben through his Ted Talk. https://lnkd.in/gK7mPYRm

Precision is not just a principle; it's a practice. In the world of building documentation, the difference between good and great lies in the details. Embrace technologies that enhance accuracy and commit to continuous learning. The more precise our measurements, the stronger and more sustainable our constructions. #WednesdayWisdom #BuildingDocumentation #PrecisionInPractice
