We proudly announce that our President and CEO, Melva Sine, was honored this week as one of Utah's 2024 CEO of the Year. If you operate, support, or eat in one of Utah's 5,000+ restaurants, you have likely been affected by the Utah Restaurant Association's efforts to advocate, educate, and support Utah's food and restaurant professionals. Melva Sine has been at the helm of the URA for 30 years, and with the support of her volunteer board and all the URA's many restaurant and food service members, she has always put the success of Utah's restaurant industry as their #1 mission. Over that time, the URA has trained 100's of thousands of food professionals with managers, food handlers, and alcohol training. Melva pioneered the ProStart Program in the USA, with Utah being a pilot program and still one of the most successful school-to-career programs in the state. Over the last two decades, she has trained tens of thousands of teens to work in Utah restaurants, many of whom now are your favorite chefs, owners, and general managers. She may be a CEO, but if you are a restaurant owner interested in the business and want to understand the industry better, she will sit with you and teach you everything she knows. She will fight with and for you if you have nowhere else to turn and need someone to help you. She is often the restaurateur's first call (and if she isn't yours, she should be). And if you need a cheerleader to champion you on, (and those restaurants who needed one during COVID know this first hand), she will be the loudest voice in the room cheering you on, reminding you that you can do it, and carrying you if you need her to. Melva is a champion for the industry because she truly loves it. She loves restaurants, she loves people, and she loves to work hard. She will always work for what's right, even when it's not what's easy. She's also managed all this while being a mother of 7 and a grandma to 24. Thank you, Melva Sine, for all your years of service and support. It would be an understatement to say that our Utah restaurant and food service family and community are grateful for you. Your industry salutes you and couldn't be prouder of you.
