Congratulations to Nao Hagiwara, Ph.D., Professor in PHS and Director of the Program on Health Disparities and Community Engagement Research, and colleagues on their book “Unequal Health: Anti-Black Racism and the Threat to America‘s Health” for winning an Outstanding Academic Title Award from Choice. Every December Choice publishes its list of Outstanding Academic Titles. This prestigious list reflects the best in scholarly titles, both print and digital, reviewed by Choice during the previous year and brings with it the extraordinary recognition of the academic library community. The list is quite selective, containing approximately ten percent of some 5,000 works reviewed annually in Choice. Penner, L. A., Dovidio, J. F., Hagiwara, N., & Smedley, B. D. (2023). Delta Omega, the Public Health Honor Society, was founded in 1924 and is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. The UVA chapter of Delta Omega has been very active this semester. In September, UVA’s chapter presented one of the monthly webinars in the 100th anniversary webinar series. Paige Hornsby, PhD, Associate Professor of Public Health Sciences, attended the anniversary celebration at the APHA meeting in Minneapolis in October. During the meeting, Dr. Mandy Cohen, Director of the CDC, was inducted into Delta Omega as this year’s honorary member. University of Virginia #uva #deltaomega #publichealth

UVA Health's very own Emily Couric Cancer Center is hosting its annual auction to raise money for patients who face barriers receiving treatment. Every year, UVA Health staff members decorate wreaths with a variety of themes and auction them off. This year, local businesses such as Corner Juice, Boylan Heights, and Ragged Mountain have also donated gift cards and merchandise to include with some of the wreaths. The auction opened 12/2 and will close 12/8. Wreaths will be available for pickup on 12/10 for winners.
