Since the launch of Gen AI, Hundreds of companies have been sued for copyright infringement. Gen AI is the future of productivity and development, however, if we don’t use these platform's property, there will be severe consequences. Here are some of the biggest cases: GitHub, Microsoft, and OpenAI  ↳ Lawsuit involves Copilot tool copying and republishing code without attribution. Stability AI, Midjourney, and DeviantArt  ↳ Lawsuit alleges AI image generators infringe on copyrights by creating unauthorized derivative works Stability AI  ↳ Accused of copying and processing millions of images and metadata owned by Getty Images OpenAI  ↳ Sued for allegedly infringing on authors' copyrights, estimated over 300,000 books were copied OpenAI and Microsoft  ↳ Lawsuit by The New York Times for copyright infringement, alleges OpenAI’s language models mimic NYT's style Meta and OpenAI  ↳ Sarah Silverman's lawsuit alleges copyright infringement for using her work without permission Google  ↳ Class-action lawsuit for alleged misuse of personal information and copyright infringement A lot of these lawsuits could have been prevented if the companies had access to the right licensing agreements. As a Lawyer on a mission to improve the monetization and automation of IP, I feel the need to educate my network and share some knowledge.
