New research from VALUE-Dx highlights how funding and pricing policies can boost the adoption of point-of-care tests (#POCTs) to improve antibiotic prescribing and combat antimicrobial resistance. Tailored policy recommendations for CA-ARTI POCTs could reshape health systems across Europe, but successful implementation requires careful adaptation to each country's unique needs. Hospitals and Health Care
IMI2 project uniting 6 in vitro diagnostic companies with 20 non-industry partners to combat AMR through diagnostics
About us
VALUE-Dx is the first Innovative Medicines Initiative project initiated by 6 in vitro diagnostic companies who joined forces with 20 non-industry partners to combat antimicrobial resistance and improve patient outcomes. Unique in its multidisciplinary consortium, it involves clinicians, microbiologists, health economists, social scientists, and industry, to help build the medical and economic case for rapid diagnostics as a public good in the fight against antibiotic resistance. VALUE-Dx will focus its research on community care, which is defined as the first point of contact with health services. Innovative diagnostics could transform clinical care, especially in community care settings where the majority of antibiotics are prescribed, by reducing uncertainty about potential benefit antibiotics may offer to individuals. VALUE-Dx will focus on diagnostic strategies relevant to reducing AMR in Community-Acquired Acute Respiratory Tract Infections.

A new VALUE-Dx paper was recently published in the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy. It’s a systematic review that explores healthcare professionals' and patients' views on using point-of-care tests (POCTs) for managing respiratory infections in primary care. The study highlights mixed opinions and identifies key factors that influence POCT use, recommending multi-level interventions to ensure effective implementation. This could guide policymakers in improving healthcare outcomes through better #POCT integration. Read the paper here ➡️ https://bit.ly/3NJOM0J Congratulations to the authors! Here is the latest groundbreaking publication from VALUE-Dx's social science team:
Professor at University of Antwerp, social scientist, qualitative research expert. Antibiotic Guardian
🚨 Alert: Congratulations to Melanie Hoste , Aleksandra Borek, @MartaSantillo, Nia Roberts and Sarah Tonkin-Crine for this "Herculean team effort'! 🚨 We are excited to share our latest #systematicreview on the use of point-of-care tests (POCTs) in managing acute respiratory tract infections (#RTIs) in #primarycare. 🔍 Key Highlights: We analyzed 33 qualitative studies to explore healthcare professionals' (HCPs) and patients' views on POCTs. Identified 38 factors affecting POCT use (28 from HCPs, 10 from patients), revealing challenges inside and beyond consultations. We found 14 interventions that could support POCT use, with 7 addressing the most factors. Some require system-level changes for successful #implementation. 💡 Takeaway for Policy-Makers: Effective POCT integration will need multi-faceted interventions targeting different stages of care, with some needing to be in place before implementation. For those interested in healthcare innovation, this review provides critical insights into optimizing POCT use in primary care settings! For those interested in learning more about this work, don't miss the public defense of Melanie Hoste on October 23rd. #POCT #PrimaryCare #AcuteRTIs #SystematicReview #HealthPolicy #AMR #implementation #qualitativethematicsynthesis Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences - University of Oxford Universiteit Antwerpen - Faculteit Geneeskunde en Gezondheidswetenschappen VALUE-Dx
