Family caregivers are pillars of support within our communities. Many older adults rely on their families for attentive care in later life. These are the individuals we lean on for comfort and who often make sacrifices to assist us when we need them most. Their dedication to providing mindful care to their loved ones is inspiring. In celebration of National Family Caregivers Month, we want to highlight resources such as the Caregiver Action Network and our Trauma-Informed Care toolkit. Both of which provide support, knowledge and recognition to caregivers. Visit the links below for more information. As we approach election day, it is critical that we affirm everyone's right to vote. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has released a memo reinforcing the regulatory expectations that Medicare and Medicaid-certified long-term care facilities affirm and support the right of residents to vote. This memo reminds states that nursing homes should have a plan to ensure residents can exercise their right to vote, whether in person, by mail, absentee ballot, or through another authorized process. It also includes information on how residents can report violations. Today, we are sharing supportive, informative resources for older adults and caregivers of older adults about voting rights and how to advocate for yourself or your loved ones. Elizabeth Welleford and Emily Foreman were at the Mayoral Candidate Q&A with the Richmond Collaborative! It was great to hear the Richmond mayoral candidates answer questions developed by the Richmond Collaborative with Leading Age. These questions ranged from perspectives on growing older to community safety and accessibility and also barriers to receiving care for those older adults identifying as LGBTQ+. Many passionate, informed and thoughtful responses present an energy of dedication and commitment to making Richmond a great place to grow older for everyone. https://lnkd.in/eukEb4Ga
