The holidays are here—the most magical time of the year. But it’s not about the presents, the twinkling lights, or even the festive activities. This year, I witnessed the magic in the joy, comfort, and peace of mind our families got with having their child take a picture with Santa. Over the last 2 weeks, Zoey and I visited our Verbal Beginnings centers during Santa Picture Days—a special event we created for the incredible families we serve. For many of these families, something as simple as a picture with Santa isn’t so simple. The long lines, bright lights, loud noises, and pressure to “get it right” and quickly can make the whole experience feel impossible. And for parents, it’s hard to watch their child struggle with something so many others seem to enjoy effortlessly. At our centers, families didn’t have to worry about lines or time limits. We created a space where kids could take their time, get comfortable, and connect with Santa on their own terms. We dimmed lights, found quiet spots, and got on the floor to capture the perfect moment—whatever that looked like for each child. For us, the “perfect picture” wasn’t about a staged smile or a flawless pose. It was about capturing something real: the joy on a parent’s face as they watched their child sit with Santa for the first time, the giggle of a child who finally felt safe enough to engage, and the relief of knowing that, for this moment, they can just be themselves. This wasn’t just about a holiday photo. It was about giving families a moment of peace in a season that can sometimes feel anything but peaceful. To the families who joined us for this event: thank you for letting us be part of your story. Your strength, love, and dedication inspire us every day, and being able to create these moments of magic for you is the greatest gift of all. Verbal Beginnings #changinglives

Clinical Director of the Healthy Beginnings Feeding Therapy Program at Verbal Beginnings, LLC, Ph D Student, Dad, and Mentor

My role in Healthy Beginnings is primarily in the clinic. However, we are trying out new things in order to expand access to care. Today, I was able to spend the day with Danitra Etheridge disseminating a new program to address food selectivity within the classroom setting in Verbal Beginnings' Frederick Center. Looking forward to seeing the outcomes and to the hope of providing meaningful improvement in a child's nutrition that will improve their overall well being.
