Over the weekend, The Australian released a piece discussing the surge in eligibility assessments resulting in participants having their NDIS plans revoked. I’ve popped the article in the comment section below for you to read 📰 My thoughts... The recent surge in NDIS eligibility reassessments has placed immense pressure on both participants and providers, creating a challenging situation for private practices, including Verve OT. Staff are fully booked months in advance and often unable to accommodate urgent requests within the 28-day timeframe. I know I am not alone here in trying to run a business that meets the needs of our participants without overburdening my therapists. This situation not only risks participants missing out on vital funding but also leaves businesses and therapists grappling with the moral weight of being unable to meet their needs in time. It’s concerning that so many participants, particularly children, are having their plans revoked without adequate foundational supports in place to catch them, despite government promises. For participants, this can feel like a loss of dignity and security. For providers, it highlights the urgent need for systemic changes to ensure the NDIS remains both sustainable and fair, without creating undue strain on the workforce or leaving anyone behind. ❓How is your team managing the demand for short-notice eligibility reassessment requests? ❓What strategies have you implemented to navigate the 28-day evidence requirements? It would be great if we can share thoughts and ideas in the comment section below. Let’s support each other through this! 💬✨ #EligibilityReassessment #NDIS #OccupationalTherapist #VerveOTLearning

The recent decision to ban NDIS funding for sexual services has sparked a heated debate, leaving many participants feeling unheard and unsupported. This article suggests that for many, this service was more than intimacy. It helped to build empowerment, identity, and connection. This comes alongside growing concerns over changes to NDIS funding for art and music therapy we discussed last week – thank you to those who shared their insights on my post. Just as these creative therapies are vital for mental health and identity, access to intimate services can be integral to thriving, not just surviving. Key takeaways from the ABC News article: 💡Intimacy is a fundamental human need, regardless of ability. 💡The funding cut disproportionately affects those already financially vulnerable. 💡Advocates argue this decision undermines choice and control for participants. 💡The recent focus on art and music therapy highlights the importance of supporting diverse pathways to well-being. ❓Do you think intimacy services should be considered "reasonable and necessary" under the NDIS?
