Our economy depends on care.
The care economy includes all paid and unpaid work that supports well-being—caring for children, the elderly, and people with disabilities, and providing healthcare, education, and domestic services. Despite its critical role, it is undervalued, with care workers often facing low wages (median of $11.17/hour) and few benefits.
In fact, caregivers—60% of whom are women—often sacrifice their careers, with women losing $20 billion in 2020 alone due to caregiving demands. On average, caregivers lose $300K in lifetime earnings.
The care economy (and the women who make up the majority) is the backbone of a healthy society, ensuring that families thrive, workers are supported, and communities remain strong. Investing in care work is not just essential for individual well-being, but for a thriving, equitable economy that benefits everyone.
