The incident occurred around 6:45 a.m. as Thompson, 50, arrived for an investor conference. A masked assailant, described as a white male wearing a cream-colored jacket and black face mask, shot Thompson in the chest before fleeing eastbound on a bicycle. Thompson was transported to Mount Sinai West hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Today, we pause to remember one of the most harrowing and heroic battles of the Korean War: the Battle of Chosin Reservoir, which began on November 27th, 1950. In the face of brutal winter conditions and overwhelming enemy forces, the United Nations troops—led primarily by the U.S. Marines—displayed extraordinary courage, resilience, and sacrifice. Surrounded by a much larger enemy force, these brave soldiers fought their way out of encirclement, embodying the phrase “Frozen Chosin.” Their determination and camaraderie in the face of unimaginable adversity continue to serve as a symbol of unwavering resolve and dedication. Let us never forget the lives lost, the hardships endured, and the legacy of those who served. Semper Fi to the Marines who fought valiantly, and our deepest gratitude to all veterans of the Korean War. #ChosinReservoir #FrozenChosin #KoreanWar #USMarines #neverforget #History #neverforgotten #usmc #Marines

Today, November 10, marks the 249th birthday of the United States Marine Corps—a proud celebration of nearly two and a half centuries of honor, courage, and commitment. Founded in 1775, just months before the Declaration of Independence, the Marine Corps was established to fight for the emerging nation’s freedoms, beginning as the Continental Marines and evolving into one of the world’s most formidable fighting forces. From their role in the Revolutionary War to present-day deployments around the globe, the Marines have consistently been the “first to fight.” They are known for their readiness, discipline, and resilience. Whether responding to conflicts abroad, defending national security interests, or providing aid during natural disasters, the Marines embody their motto: “Semper Fidelis”—always faithful. On this special day, Marines past and present reflect on their history and honor those who came before them. Traditions like the cake-cutting ceremony, where the oldest and youngest Marines present share a slice, remind us of the legacy that connects all generations. Today, we pay tribute to the sacrifices and achievements of all Marines and honor the spirit of service that defines the Corps. Happy 249th Birthday, Marines! Thank you for your dedication and unwavering loyalty to our nation. On October 23, 1983, one of the deadliest attacks on U.S. forces in the post-World War II era occurred in Beirut, Lebanon. A truck filled with explosives crashed into a building housing U.S. Marines who were part of a multinational peacekeeping force. The resulting explosion leveled the four-story structure, killing 241 U.S. service members, most of them Marines, and injuring over 100 others. The bombing marked a turning point in U.S. involvement in Lebanon during its brutal civil war. This tragic event was orchestrated by a group linked to Hezbollah, with support from Iran. Simultaneously, a second suicide bombing targeted a French barracks, killing 58 soldiers. These attacks shocked the international community and highlighted the growing threat of militant extremism in the Middle East. The bombing prompted deep reflection within the U.S. on its military strategy and presence in volatile regions. While President Ronald Reagan vowed to remain committed to Lebanon’s stability, U.S. forces were withdrawn in 1984. The attack also marked a shift in terrorist tactics, signaling the rise of suicide bombings as a devastating and symbolic method of asymmetric warfare. The bombing remains a somber reminder of the cost of peacekeeping in dangerous environments and the ongoing risks faced by military personnel deployed in conflict zones. It is commemorated every year by the U.S. Marine Corps and is a solemn chapter in the history of U.S. military operations abroad. #Marines #Beiruit #Lebanon #Sacrifice #neverforgotten #legacy #heroes #diplomacy #statedepartment #armedforces #rememberthefallen #reagan #bush #america #resilience #yourfeed #explore #foryou #History
