New Genre: Hystorical Fiction EVERYTHING we write and produce is rooted in truth. It’s a model I believe that every “media” company and brand is trying to emulate. Apparently the word “authenticity” was the word of the year in 2023…probably because Tik Tok blew up years in the prior so every brand with tons of money tried to emulate the rawness that Tik Tok brought…AND FAILED. We crowdsource our stories straight from the source. If we’re writing a show about army infantry or navy corpsman or marine motor t…we create a Facebook group with 100 of them and ask for funny stories and interesting characters. The ones that leave the best comments, we hire as advisors. And the screenwriter is a veteran that literally lived it. And then once it’s drafted, we have a table read where we bring in more advisers from that MOS to punch it up. Authenticity is our bread and butter. While we didn’t invent the genre…we labeled it. Hystorical Fiction.

On Aug 12, we finished up 10 days in Ukraine 🇺🇦 filming a new docuseries for VET Tv - Veteran Entertainment Television Directed and Produced by Ethan Nagel & Chris Naganuma (combat veterans, OIF/OEF). Some highlights, pictures to come: We witnessed anti-air systems intercept missiles midair that lit the sky in the middle of Kyiv. We interviewed Chosen Company (GWOT veterans) about stacking Russians on behalf of Ukraine. We visited an undisclosed warehouse where citizens gave up careers to build drones and retrofit captured Russian vehicles. We embedded with a drone unit 4 km off the border, located a Russian position then beat feet to an arty hide site and fired 2 missions (great success) during the recent push into Kursk. We documented Ukrainian infantrymen of 3rd Assault Brigade training for night time assaults while active arty missions illuminated the Russian backdrop. We personally trained Ukrainian citizens who still have family under Russian occupation basic firearms handling. We witnessed a peaceful rally to free Ukrainian POWs. We broke bread with Ukrainian citizens, soldiers, and American volunteers. We also ate borsch every time we saw it on the menu. The intersection of Moores law and modern warfare is scary. Tactics change every 6 months due to technological advances, which means SOPs are constantly rewritten. Nothing is scarier than kamikaze drones. Electronic warfare is a lead bullet, not a silver bullet. But when EW works, air superiority doesn’t reign supreme. Infantry is still the tip of the spear. Conventional warfare is back. Trench warfare is back. And it’s ALL on video! Every fighter there has drone footage and gopro footage and tiny cameras attached to their nods and thermals so they can playback assaults. And due to the trust we built as infantrymen reporting on infantrymen, they gladly shared all of it, that’s hundreds of terabytes of combat footage. Politics aside, the citizens and fighters of Ukraine are hard and resilient and filled with conviction as they fight for their land and their family (and not just the benefits). Almost everyone we spoke to we asked “why are you fighting?” and in the words of Michael Jordan “it was personal,” that can’t be understated. Series will premiere on VET Tv - Veteran Entertainment Television early Fall 2024. I’ll share more pictures and clips as time nears. This docuseries marks the beginning of VET Tv venturing beyond just scripted comedic content. While that will always be a slice of the pie, there’s a lot more slices in this pie to deliver on our promise — Our Stories, Our Way.

  • This week, VET Tv acknowledges and honors the service and sacrifice of our Afghanistan veterans. We're offering a 2-day free trial of VET Tv so you can be among the first to see "Interpreters Wanted," our powerful documentary by four-time Emmy-winning director Robert Ham. It tells the story of two Afghan brothers who risked everything to support U.S. forces, only to be left behind after the chaotic U.S. pullout. This film -- some 15-years in the making -- highlights their desperate struggle for survival as the Taliban closed in, and the enduring bond they shared with an American Soldier. This film is a stark reminder of the sacrifices made by these interpreters and our responsibility to those who stood by us.   📽 GI Film Festival | Founders Choice Award Winner 📽 Documentaries Without Borders International Film Festival | Human Spirit Award 📽 Arizona International Film Festival | Best Documentary 📽 Martha's Vineyard Film Festival 📽 Gig Harbor Film Festival 📽 Heartland International Film Festival 📽 DWF LA Streaming now on veterantv.com

Myself & the VET Tv - Veteran Entertainment Television team stopped in izyum, coming across this school Russia forces bombed. For 6 months Izyum was under Russian occupation seeing a estimated population drop from 44000 to under 10000 ( round numbers ). The battle started in March 2022 for control of the town of Izium due to the town’s importance as a transportation node. Russian force’s wanted to capture Izium so its forces in Kharkiv Oblast could link up with their troops in the Donbas region. On 10 September 2022, Ukrainian forces recaptured the town during the 2022 Kharkiv counteroffensive and local mass graves with 440 bodies were found. The occupation is still very much felt and seen here in Izyum. Houses are in ruins, water and electricity can be hard to get, air sirens and artillery are heard nightly, but the coffee & will of the people are high. I’ve been filming a new series with Ethan Nagel launching on VET Tv - Veteran Entertainment Television this Sept / Oct covering units in combat and how quickly technology is changing the face of the battlefield today. 📸 Ethan Nagel More to follow 🏴 #TheLeaflet #VetTv
