You're invited! Next week we'll be speaking with Wisia Wedzicha, MD, PhD, about the BEACON Study, which aims to identify early signs of COPD 🫁 in young smokers. Bring your questions for live Q&A! Register here 👇 https://hubs.la/Q02-16Xh0

Did you know the average age of a COPD diagnosis is 73 (source: Morena et al., J Clin Med. 2023)? Since early diagnosis is so important in COPD, imagine if we could identify signs of disease significantly earlier (age 30-45)?! The BEACON study sought to answer this provocative question. Come hear about the results from Dr. Wedzicha in our upcoming webinar: https://lnkd.in/gNu9b8Rm About Wisia Wedzicha Dr. Wedzicha is Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College, UK. She was awarded the BTS (British Thoracic Society) Medal in 2023 for contributions to respiratory medicine & science and the Helmholtz International Fellow award in 2014. Professor Wedzicha has a major interest in the causes, mechanisms, impact and prevention of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) exacerbations, and in the role of bacterial and viral infection in COPD exacerbations. She has published extensively on these topic and leads the British Early COPD Network cohort (BEACON) study. Prof. Wedzicha was Editor in Chief of the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care (“the Blue Journal”) from 2015 to 2021 and Editor in Chief of Thorax from 2002 to 2010. #COPDMonth #COPD #BEACON

An excellent editorial by Cara Flynn and Chris Brightling: "Picture this: the future of imaging biomarkers in COPD." https://hubs.la/Q02W3MPq0 "In the near future, artificial intelligence, which is advancing rapidly in other areas of imaging, could be more widely adopted forCOPD imaging."
