The Village of Mundelein, a vibrant and progressive community of nearly 32,000 residents, is situated in the center of beautiful Lake County, Illinois, one of the strongest areas of commercial and industrial growth in the nation, with excellent housing, recreation, educational and business opportunities. Currently, Mundelein is experiencing significant interest in residential developments of various types. Also, non-residential property owners, brokers, and tenants (commercial, industrial, institutional) are expressing a need to Mayor Steve Lentz and the Trustees for increased rooftops to provide tenants, customers, and employees. Often referred to as, “the Heart of Lake County,” the Village of Mundelein is well positioned for convenient access to and from the City of Chicago and the greater Chicago region. An excellent location, modern business parks, reliable infrastructure, water resources and a well-managed and progressive local government contribute to Mundelein’s success.

We would like to thank Senator Adriane Johnson, M.J., PHR, SHRM-CP for awarding the Village of Mundelein a Violence Prevention Grant. This grant allowed us to install a new and improved barrier at the Village Hall to provide the best security for our staff. Senator Johnson’s generous grant not only provided this added security for staff, but the Village was also able to secure new squad cars and flock camera systems for added community safety. Thank you, Senator Johnson!

Every few years, Public Works and Engineering reaches out to the Smart Energy Design Assistance Center (SEDAC) to request that they perform an energy audit of our wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) to see what, if any, improvements are feasible. The report includes a comprehensive analysis of energy usage throughout the facility. This year’s analysis included recommendations to complete the LED retrofit for the interior light fixtures, install a solar array, and continue to research a combined heat and power (CHP) system on the digester. As you can see from the excerpt below, the facility is performing significantly better than the average for facilities treating a similar amount of wastewater flow. It is yet another indicator of just how well the Village of Mundelein operates its utility system and strives to be as energy efficient as possible.

The Mundelein Police Department is CALEA accredited for the 8th time! CALEA® Accreditation serves as the International Gold Standard for Public Safety Agencies. The Mundelein (Village of) Police Department has been awarded Law Enforcement Accreditation effective July 27, 2024, for the eighth time. This award remains in effect for four years and the agency retains all privileges associated with this status during that period. The process of CALEA Accreditation begins with a rigorous self-assessment, requiring a review of policies, practices, and processes against internationally accepted public safety standards. This is followed with an assessment by independent assessors with significant public safety experience. Additionally, public feedback is received to promote community trust and engagement. Structured interviews are conducted with select agency personnel and others with knowledge to assess the agency’s effectiveness and overall service delivery capacities. The decision to accredit is rendered by a governing body of twenty-one Commissioners following a public hearing and review of all reporting documentation. CALEA Accreditation is a continuous process and serves as the foundation for a successful, well managed, transparent, community-focused public safety agency. To this end, an agency must maintain its accredited status by remaining in compliance with CALEA standards at all times. CALEA Accreditation is the Mark of Professional Excellence and is displayed proudly by those who have earned this honor.

Pardon our dust! The Mundelein Village Hall service counter will be under construction the week of July 29, 2024. Thanks to a Violence Prevention Grant the Village received from Senator Adriane Johnson, a new and improved barrier is being installed to provide the best security for our staff. But it’s business as usual… our staff will be just a few steps away to handle all resident needs during the construction. Village Hall services for permits, water billing, and more will be temporarily located in a conference room off the lobby on July 30, 2024 through August 2, 2024. Senator Johnson’s generous grant not only provides this added security for staff, but the Village was also able to secure new squad cars and flock camera systems for added community safety. Thank you, Senator Johnson!
