A New Course for Offshore Wind

About us

Vineyard Wind is well underway in developing the nation's first utility-scale offshore wind energy project over 15 miles off the coast of Massachusetts. The project will generate clean, renewable, cost-competitive energy for over 400,000 homes and businesses across the Commonwealth, while reducing carbon emissions by over 1.6 million tons per year. New England is shifting to clean, competitively-priced energy, and Massachusetts state law seeks to have 3,200 MW of offshore wind providing electricity to the Commonwealth by 2035, which could represent over 20% of electricity consumed in the state. Vineyard Wind is an important part of that goal, and will make a significant contribution to the Commonwealth’s aim of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, while growing our economy and enhancing energy security and reliability.

Vineyard Wind 1 is now the largest operating offshore wind project in the United States! With 10 turbines in operation, the project is now sending 136 megawatts of clean energy to the Massachusetts grid - enough to power 64,000 homes. 🏠💡 Once complete, our 62-turbine project will be the largest renewable energy facility in New England and power more than 400,000 homes.

Vineyard Wind proudly sponsored the Imagine Corps program, engaging local 7th and 8th graders in the challenge of reducing fossil fuel consumption. Partnering with Vineyard Power and the Martha’s Vineyard Commission, the project helped students explore clean energy solutions, preparing them to lead in their classrooms and communities. Students from the West Tisbury School developed solar-powered electric scooters and a tram system, presenting their ideas at the Annual Climate Action Fair, the Felix Neck Youth Climate Summit, and at a program-sponsored Concept Jam.

Another week, another spotlight- we’re excited to introduce our second Education High School Ambassador, Christopher Cecil! Christopher recently graduated from Greater New Bedford Vocational Technical High School, where he participated in the Legal & Protective Shop and in the EMT Program. He became interested in Vineyard Wind because they are building the first ever offshore wind farm in North America. He is especially looking forward to working with the health, safety, and environment department as he’s interested in emergency management and is excited to make an impact within his community. We’re excited for Christopher to join us this summer and make an impact on our own team!
