🔍 Trust Your Gut, but Don’t Ignore the Data Ever stepped on the scale after being “really good” for a week and watched the numbers go in the wrong direction? It’s easy to think, “something’s wrong with the scale!” In business, the numbers don’t lie (for the most part). But data isn’t the only thing you should rely on. Your intuition is just as important — it comes from years of experience, pattern recognition, and a deep understanding of your business. So, what do you do when your gut says one thing, but the data says another? Ever find yourself: → Struggling to make sense of both instinct and data? → Trusting your gut but second-guessing the numbers? → Leaning on data but wondering if it’s missing something important? It’s worth asking if you’re measuring the right things. But those KPIs are there for a reason, and in most cases, the numbers are accurate—they’re just incomplete. I worked with a founder who had every KPI nailed down across their business units. But they didn’t have a key piece of information about how funding was expected to be deployed across those units. This missing metric was affecting how the entire operation ran. The founder’s gut feeling that something was off? The data wasn’t wrong—it was just missing a piece. I went out with part of the team that was responsible for building and running a data analytics platform for media coverage of US elections. It’s been a busy year! As we sat down and started to break bread, I felt awash with feelings of gratitude. Being an entrepreneur can be trying but what a blessing it is when you’re able to bring on talented people who are passionate about their work and each other. You might be feeling: - 📉 “Will AI make my business obsolete?” - 🤔 “Am I falling behind my competitors?” - 🏃♂️ “How do I keep up when I’m already stretched too thin?” I don’t think it’s possible to keep up with everything that is going on. There is an unprecedented amount of investment going into AI. By the time you’re finished reading this there are likely many new announcements. So what do you do? Depending on where you are at with your own generative AI adoption personally or within your organization, pick places where you can experience reliable productivity gains. If you don’t know where to start: → get a coach → join a community → start learning with podcasts → start incorporating these tools into your workflows It’s normal to feel overwhelmed, but I believe these tools are here to enhance and improve what one individual can do. AI isn’t here to replace you; it’s here to amplify you. With a bit of setup and creativity you can get to a place where: - 🕒 You reclaim hours spent on mundane tasks. - 💡 Your strategy, vision and leadership can be enhanced by AI - 📈 Your team becomes more efficient, and your customers are better served. In my 30+ years in technology, I’ve seen wave after wave of innovation. Each time, the businesses that thrived were the ones that: 1. Had a *plan* for leveraging new tech. 2. Worked with *coaches and advisors* who helped them see around corners. 3. Learned alongside a *community of peers* who shared insights and support. I’ve personally gained so much from being part of peer groups and working with coaches—and now, I help others do the same. I believe AI is a tool to accelerate your dreams—not derail them.
