A new study in the British Journal of Sports Medicine reveals how women can slash their heart disease risk by HALF! According to cardiologists, simple lifestyle changes can make a huge difference. The key takeaway? "The most important lesson learned is to avoid being sedentary," says Brad Serwer, MD FACC FSCAI, chief medical officer of VitalSolution-Cardiology. He adds, "Sitting for prolonged periods of time can be very detrimental to one's cardiovascular health." Check out the full article to learn more about protecting your heart: https://lnkd.in/gE8tyvqn

This holiday season is expected to be the busiest on record for both air and road travel. ✈️ And while many of us might associate crowded airports and congested roads with stress and anxiety, one study found that going on vacation can be a great way to reduce your risk of heart problems. According to experts, this correlation makes sense. “If done properly, travel can be very beneficial for your cardiac health,” said Brad Serwer, MD FACC FSCAI, an interventional cardiologist and chief medical officer at VitalSolution. According to a survey by the American Psychological Association, 57% of people return from vacation feeling less stressed, and 68% return with more positive feelings. If you ask them why, they might point to the time spent relaxing and away from work, or their experience seeing a beautiful country. Scientists at the University of Utah have achieved something groundbreaking—new gene therapy has successfully reversed heart failure in a large animal study. Jasdeep Dalawari MD FACC FSCAI FSVM, Regional Chief Medical Officer at VitalSolution, weighed in on these exciting findings, saying, "Gene therapy, precision medicine, and personalized health care is the future." Dr. Dalawari also highlighted the bigger picture, noting, "There are many genetic modifications happening in different diseases, like cystic fibrosis and muscular dystrophy, that are looking at a similar intervention – injecting healthy genes in the hopes of finding cures." This study showed a 30% improvement in heart function, a massive leap from the 5-10% improvements seen in previous efforts. Learn more about the study: https://lnkd.in/gU6XCGCE

Can an ingredient found in common hair loss treatments impact your heart health? Minoxidil is an antihypertensive medication used to treat high blood pressure. But its oral form is also used off-label for hair loss treatment. Like any medication, oral minoxidil has side effects. Brad Serwer, MD FACC FSCAI, a cardiologist and chief medical officer at VitalSolution-Cardiology, says, "Common cardiac side effects of minoxidil include tachycardia, fluid retention, heart failure, arrhythmias and pericarditis."
