A great day for Vivedus! Three schools have joined us for a professional development program on creative intelligence and the Vivedus Platform. Omni Academies of Learning have adopted the Vivedus Learning Activation Model for 2025. Our first government school is going to be running a pilot of Vivedus next year! And, a visiting school from Christchurch, New Zealand has joined us for the two days to learn more about what Vivedus does for learning. In addition to these three schools we are also in negotiation with an organisation to offer Vivedus to teachers delivering the HSC in two international schools in China. A film crew is also here putting together a piece for the Global Institute for Creative Thinking based at the University of Cambridge. Our vision is to activate the creative intelligence of every student. #takelearningbeyond #reimaginingeducation #school

The Vivedus Learning Activation Model is underpinned by some seven decades of research into little-c creativity, including the academic research of Gabrielle Kempton, Head of Research and Development at Vivedus. Some of that research is accessible from the Vivedus website, but for those looking for some holiday reading, this work by the OECD is a great start. Other papers come be found on the page product/underpinning theory. #creativity #reimaginingeducation #schools https://lnkd.in/gFynTtA9

The research underpinning the Vivedus Learning Activation Model is significant, extensive and decades in the making. For example, Jacob Getzels and Michaly Csikszentmihalyi discovered that creative people are problem finders. Their 1960s study into creativity found that problem finders were significantly more successful in life. “The quality of the problem that is found is a forerunner of the quality of the solution that is attained…” Getzels concluded. “It is in fact the discovery and creation of problems rather than any superior knowledge, technical skill, or craftsmanship that often sets the creative person apart from others in their field.” Teaching for creative thinking is about supporting students to be problem finders before they be problem solvers. How to teach for creativity and teach creatively was the problem the team at Vivedus identified and went about solving. The solution will not only enable people to thrive, but also be imminently more successful, particularly in the emerging economy that values creative thinking as the number one skill (World Economic Forum, Future of Jobs Report, 2023). This is Vivedus. #reimaginingeducation #creativity #learning #teaching #school

All very important questions posed by Will Richardson that every educator needs to be able to answer: What do I believe about the state of the world right now? About the institution of education and schooling? About what kind of future is emerging? And how do I act accordingly? We have an ethical and moral responsibility to the children in our care to prepare them for what is their future. Educators need to lead, not follow. #reimaginingeducation #schools #creativity #teaching #learning
Co-Founder, Big Questions Institute; Speaker, Author, Provocateur, Educator - Confronting education at a time of complexity, chaos, and collapse. All posts are written by me.
As promised, I'm sharing here a new essay/manifesto that attempts to capture where my head is at right now in terms of the challenges and opportunities for education writ large. It's also meant to provoke a conversation about education that is "several levels of altitude higher than the ones we are currently locked into" to quote Ulcca Joshi Hansen. This is not about AI, or social media bans, or reading wars, or assessments. Here's my thesis: “To put it bluntly, the vast majority of school communities around the world have been turning away from, ignoring, and/or actively denying the harsh realities of this moment. They have lacked the courage to fully unpack and interrogate the implications of these new realities on their legacy systems and practices. In doing so, they are leaving our students ill-prepared not just to negotiate what’s coming, but to be equipped to mitigate the impacts. Full stop.” We are entering a liminal, in-between period in the world that has huge implications for the way we think about and practice "education." My belief is that we must open our eyes to this moment and be willing to "go there" into the very difficult conversations about how current education structures are no longer fit for purpose and that, in fact, the whole reason for educating needs to be interrogated. As always, I look forward to your thoughts. And if this "manifesto" resonates, I hope you will share it with your colleagues and networks. It's time to face reality. Schools across Australia have a similar dream and are trying to solve the same problems. Schools want to be known as places of innovation and want to find ways to support teachers to grow professionally. Vivedus provides the how. #reimaginingeducation #schools #teaching
** Survey results in: What are your dreams for your school?** Thank you to those who responded to the survey I distributed last week asking principals the question, “What are your dreams for your school?”. There was a solid response rate from across the country (enough to confirm trends). All States and Territories were represented in the data with Western Australia having slightly more respondents. There was also a good spread of responses between each of the sectors: government schools 40%, independent schools 42% and Catholic systemic schools 18%. 64% of schools were combined primary and secondary, 22% were secondary only schools, and 18% primary only. Respondents were asked to rate, on a five-point Likert scale, eight statements and/or add their own wish/dream for what they would like to achieve at their school. 30% of respondents added their own dream, but there were no commonalities between the statements offered. So, by combining the total responses for the ratings of 4 (a high priority) and 5 (I would love to achieve this) we can see what the top ‘dreams’ are for school leaders. Of those who participated in the survey, across the country and all sectors, the top dream was equally shared between: ➡ Principals want to find a cost efficient and cost-effective way to support their teachers to grow professionally (91.1%); and, ➡ Principals would love their school to be known as a place of innovation (91.1%). You are not alone in the problems you would love to solve. Of course, the question now is, “how?” But there is a solution. Thank you again for participating in the survey. #reimaginingeducation #teaching #schools ViVEDUS

It is little wonder teachers are burning out. The administrative tasks are the killer. This article sheds a little light on the problem. "Numbers obtained from the Education Queensland Policy and Procedure Register show 110 new policies have been introduced or amended between 2023 and 2024". This is extraordinary. A key motivator for the team at Vivedus is responding to this workload crisis. The Vivedus Platform doesn't solve all the problems, but does reduce a significant portion of a teacher's administrative requirements, particularly around learner adjustments. We want teachers to re-find the joy of teaching! https://lnkd.in/ggJwdCKy

This article essentially sums up the motivation behind the creation of the Vivedus Learning Activation Model: "‘Australian schooling is in big trouble’: Calls for urgent structural reform." "[S]urveys have shown many young people feel they don’t belong, and that they’re not learning in the ways the system demands, while for others, the curriculum doesn’t engage their interest, or they feel trapped in the classroom when they’d rather be exploring the world." There are bright spots out there, schools doing amazing work. But, big, complex problems, like the one identified in this article, are hard to solve. Vivedus provides a solution without the need for whole sale reform. What Vivedus does is provide all schools the opportunity to: increase student agency and engagement; bring back the joy of teaching; all the while ensuring mandatory requirements are met. https://lnkd.in/g6a9JqSK

The Vivedus team is in Adelaide at the moment visiting four schools who are keen to learn more about what the Vivedus Learning Activation Model does for: * student engagement; * amplifying learning; * reducing teaching workload; and, * supporting teacher growth. We were particularly impressed with the incredible work at Hills Christian Community School and The Wilkins Project designed and lead by the amazing Adam Stevens. #reimaginingeducation #schools #creativity #learning

"Academic results naturally follow great teaching and learning but should never take center stage because schools aren’t actually about numbers; they are about people." During yesterday’s webinar, Overcoming the Barriers to Transform Education, we discussed a critical shift that’s long overdue in schools: moving beyond statistics like NAPLAN and ATAR scores to communicate a vision that genuinely reflects what a school can be for its community. When we focus solely on results, we miss out on what truly makes a school thrive—an inspiring environment where students are encouraged to think critically, explore creativity, and grow into compassionate, capable individuals. Imagine a school where students come in every day excited to learn, where teachers feel empowered to innovate, and where the primary aim is not just academic scores but the holistic development of each student. Creating and communicating a powerful vision, one that resonates with students, families, and educators alike, is the path forward. Numbers will always have their place, but it’s our vision for nurturing resilient, adaptable, and curious learners that defines us. Thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday. Let’s continue to reimagine education together—one vision at a time. #webinar #takinglearningbeyond #visionaryleaders #education

There is much to celebrate at Vivedus today! Last night we had a great meeting with Ewan McIntosh of NoTosh, based in Scotland, sharing with him the work underpinning Vivedus. Today had another great meeting with a government high school about a pilot for Vivedus commencing 2025. The team presented to that school's key Heads of Department and Senior Staff who immediately could see the possibilities that the Vivedus Learning Activation Model and Platform will do to amplify student engagement and learning and enable their innovative programs go to the next level. At lunchtime we received news of a grant from the Global Institute of Creative Thinking to help showcase our work. Thank you to that organisation, who is based in the UK, for your support and encouragement. Then we presented our second webinar in the afternoon, straight after a meeting with yet another school. Tomorrow we have a meeting with two more schools, one in outback Queensland and a government school in WA, and on Sunday we fly to Adelaide to visit three more schools interested in learning more about Vivedus. Coupled with all this, registrations for our PD events being held in Adelaide, Toowoomba and Townsville in February 2025 are coming in. If you're based in one of those regions don't miss out on the opportunity. Places are capped. #reimaginingeducation #creativity #schools #education https://lnkd.in/gnimg2iF
