Electrostatic discharge can cause serious integrated circuit (IC) failures. That's why it's important to take measures to mitigate it. Researchers at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory used 3D printing to apply silicone resin foams over electronic components to protect them against electrostatic discharge. An added benefit is that this material also cushions components from mechanical impact.
