Yesterday we celebrated staff members Marisol Estrada Cruz and Sylvia Espinosa de los Monteros, as they attended their swearing in ceremony to the New York State Bar at the Eastman Theatre in Rochester. Marisol and Sylvia are dedicated to ensuring access to justice and opportunity for all. They are deeply appreciated for their contributions to VLPCNY and our local community.

This critical support allows us to continue providing legal services while we wait to receive grant payments. “VLPCNY, like so many nonprofit organizations, receives most of its funding from New York State to provide critical services that that State has identified as essential to life,” said Sal Curran, executive director of VLPCNY. “Unfortunately, contracting and reimbursement from the State has become increasingly challenging, regularly leading to four to six month or longer delays for organizations like VLPCNY to get paid for work already completed. This impact investment from CNYCF will alleviate a tremendous financial pressure on VLPCNY during this time when interest rates on lines of credit are so high. We are so grateful to Central New York Community Foundation for its leadership and vision in finding practical solutions for local nonprofits.”
Impact Investment Update: We just closed on a $750K deal to secure a low interest line of credit for Volunteer Lawyers Project of CNY that will allow the organization to continue services until state grant contracts are fulfilled. This is the first investment from our newly established Certificate of Deposit funding program through NBT Bank. It will allow us to now make similar deposits for other organizations that need larger amounts of support than our Bridge Loan Program can provide.

Our team had a VERY special visitor from Paws of CNY today. Molly Rose was a well-behaved, sweet guest at our staff meeting. PAWS of CNY has a mission to improve the lives of people in Central New York through the power of the human-animal bond by providing pet-assisted wellness services to hospitals, nursing homes, schools, colleges and universities, libraries, airport travelers, and community partners in Onondaga, Oswego, Cortland, Madison, and Cayuga Counties. Thank you, Molly Rose!
