John Gilson is retiring after 21 memorable years with Walsh. Wearing many hats while he was with our Seattle region, John was a true leader and innovator. As Senior Project Manager, he led project teams to successful completion on many notable projects for our higher education and affordable housing clients. He was also beloved as a guide for our Project Engineers, helping foster their growth within our company. Part of John's time was as our Director of Innovation. Realizing grass roots innovation needed to be encouraged and celebrated, John looked for ways to recognize, reinforce, and support the great things our workforce is doing. His legacy will remain as empowering each person to think of more ways to be innovative, even in small increments. We will miss his gentle confidence, quick wit, trusted advice, and comradery. BRIDGE Housing has achieved another milestone in capital markets by becoming the first nonprofit housing provider to issue publicly offered tax-exempt construction bonds.   This offering raised $71.5 million to help finance hollywoodHUB, a major new affordable housing community in Portland, Oregon, and was four-times oversubscribed – reflecting strong investor confidence in BRIDGE. This type of bond enabled us to borrow at a below-market rate, saving $2.5 million in construction costs.   A huge thanks to KeyBanc Capital Markets for underwriting the offering, KeyBank Community Development Lending and Investment for providing equity and debt financing, and BRIDGE’s Capital Markets and Development teams for extending our legacy of tapping institutional capital to create affordable housing.
