About us

Washington Business Week - a business education program for high school students- started by AWB (Association of Washington Business) and the Foundation for Private Enterprise Education in 1976. The magic of Business Week occurs annually on on university campuses and in several designated high school districts throughout the State and internationally in Poland. This is the place and environment where high school students participate in a hands-on educational model that engages, educates and empowers students to learn about business and entrepreneurial skills along with grow and develop life skills. And they have fun too! Students leave the the program ready to engage with more focus and intention in their continued pursuit of academic knowledge and go on to find careers that match with their passion and talents. Plus they develop life long friendships that help support their education and professional development for the rest of their lives. Business representatives (who coach the program's student led teams) learn about working with the next generation of business leaders and expand and practice their professional development and leadership skills. They also find that with the program starts life long connections with business leaders (today's and tomorrow's) that are with them for years to come. In August of this year, I got to speak to a group of high school students who willingly spent a week out of their summer pursuing their personal and professional learning and development at Washington Business Week's annual camp at Renton Technical College (one of several they do each year). Curious, engaged, and nervous. That's how I'd describe this group during our session at the beginning of their week. The topic? Navigating ambiguity. Timely? I think so. While planning my 2025, I was reflecting on this session, and just how excited I am to offer my time and support to WBW in the new year ahead. AND THEN, I got some thank you notes in the mail from the Executive Director, Nick Quinlan, that students had written me after that session. Talk about surprise and delight! Over the course of the next few weeks, I'll be sharing some of the sentiments these students shared as a gentle and kind reminder to us all to never underestimate the impact that sharing our stories can have when we do it with courage and vulnerability (shout out to my favorite Texan Auntie and most courageous member of my brain trust, Brené Brown). Summon your courage, folks! Looking forward to sharing with you all this week! And! Shameless plug: if you have high school age kids that are looking for a place to experience personal and professional development, I cannot recommend Washington Business Week's programming enough. They have week-long programs on-site at colleges and universities, one of which is a residential camp (great for students who are looking to have an experience on a college campus. And! If you're looking to volunteer, join me next year as a Company Advisor, where we can influence and lead the next generation of leaders in the workforce in their discovery of their capabilities as they run a business for the week. Reach out if you have questions!

𝐈𝐓 𝐓𝐀𝐊𝐄𝐒 𝐀 𝐕𝐈𝐋𝐋𝐀𝐆𝐄 𝐓𝐎 𝐑𝐀𝐈𝐒𝐄 𝐀 𝐂𝐇𝐈𝐋𝐃 Had the incredible opportunity to speak to the students and staff the at Hoquiam High School for two separate programs. First, I spoke to 9th, 10th, and 12th graders about the power of resilience and community. Afterwards, I was the #keynotespeaker for Washington Business Week ‘s in school program for the junior class. We touched on the courage to step outside of one’s comfort zone and combating negative self-talk and doubt. As a former WBW helped lay the foundation on understanding important skills to run a successful business. All this was possible with the support of Grays Harbor College TRIO UPWARD Bound. Thank you to Sarina Tung and your team for working year round to raise your students’ to their highest potential!
