Some tips for navigating the world of ESG reporting standards.

We need to address the U.S.’s plastic problem which demands urgent action and innovative solutions. In 2018 China banned plastic imports forcing the U.S. to confront the unsustainable plastic production and disposal practices. Some chemical recycling methods such as pyrolysis promise a “circular economy”, but they have been falling short in delivering its promises, while relying on subsidies and emitting toxic pollutants. Oil corporations have been pushing to convert plastic into crude oil which perpetuates the reliance on fossil fuels. Reality tells us that only a tiny fraction of plastics gets recycled; most end up in landfills (some after being downcycled). As we navigate this paradox it’s crucial to prioritize reduction, regulation, and sustainable alternatives. The UN’s proposed international plastic treaty and local initiatives such as plastic bans offer promising steps towards a more sustainable future. Organizations today have a responsibility to change their operations to find alternatives to waste and embed sustainability into their business models.

Last October we were invited to speak at the Tahoe Prosperity Center annual Lake Tahoe Economic Summit. We shared the stage with some awesome local entrepreneurs and we got to hear about their fascinating journeys.
