The Attorneys' Column has often extolled the virtues of the mechanic’s lien as a powerful tool to assist unpaid contractors to get paid for their work. This tool, as a creation of statute, balances the power of the lien by offering protections for the party against whom the lien is filed. One of these protections is the ability of the party against whom the lien is filed to demand an itemized statement of the items comprising the lien, which is to be sworn to by the lienor. Read more about how the "Court Reminds Lienors That an Itemized Statement of Lien Must Detail Both Extra and Base Contract Work" in this month's Attorneys' Column by Thomas H. Welby. Costas Cyprus attended the HELLENIC-AMERICAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE's Traditional Cutting of the Vasilopita. This celebrated tradition involves cutting a custom cake (the vasilopita) to bless one’s house and to bring good luck for the new year. A coin is hidden inside the cake and it is that tradition that whoever finds the coin in their slice will be blessed with good fortune for the year. Happy and Healthy New Year to All! #vasilopita2025 #helenicamerican #constructionattorney #goodluck

Construction companies must maintain frequent inspections to ensure the safety of their workers. The recent decision in Secretary of Labor v. Avadek, Inc. shows however, that even when an employer does have a good and detailed inspection program, bad things can still occur. In this case, a foreman tragically plunged to his death in an incident while conducting work on an aluminum canopy. Learn more about how "Frequent Worksite Inspections Can Bolster and Enhance a Company’s Safety Program" in this month's Safety Policy by Costas Cyprus. https://lnkd.in/eERBUDt2 #constructionsafety #osha #jobsafetyanalysis #constructionlaw

Construction businesses rely on employee trust, but disloyal insiders can misuse confidential information to cause significant harm. When this happens, immediate action is crucial. This alert explains how contractors can use Temporary Restraining Orders (TROs) and Preliminary Injunctions to prevent further damage. Paul Ryan, Andreas Koudellou and Costas Cyprus attended the Subcontractors Trade Association's “Toast to Business Growth 2025” event. This annual STA event is especially notable due to the organization’s effort to connect some of NYC’s biggest and most reputable general contractors with dozens of subcontractors of varying trades. WBG always attends the annual Toast to reinforce its longstanding support of the STA, in addition to encouraging and assisting its current (and prospective) clients in making meaningful contacts for future projects. We encourage everyone to attend the Toast in 2026, along with all other STA events. #STA #Businessgrowth #NYC #WBG #subcontractors #constructionattorneys

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit has reinstated the district court’s preliminary injunction that temporarily halts the enforcement of the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) reporting requirements. This decision reverses the Fifth Circuit’s earlier ruling on December 23, 2024, which had stayed the district court’s injunction and reinstated the CTA’s reporting requirements. The CTA’s obligations are, therefore, currently unenforceable pending further legal proceedings. On December 23, 2024, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit issued a decision that reinstates the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) reporting requirements for most entities, following a stay of the preliminary injunction granted earlier this month. This decision has significant implications for reporting companies subject to the CTA's beneficial ownership information (BOI) reporting requirements.
