About us

AMERICAN UNIVERSITY WASHINGTON COLLEGE OF LAW’S PROGRAM ON ENVIRONMENTAL AND ENERGY LAW provides students with a wealth of opportunities to explore issues in animal law, energy law, and environmental law. Housed in a state-of-the-art LEED Gold facility only a few Metro stops from governmental agencies, advocacy organizations, trade associations, and private firms, the Program connects students to a vibrant network of adjunct professors, alumni, and other practitioners working in all four sectors. STUDENT ACTIVITIES The Program supports four student-run organizations: the Animal, Energy, and Environmental Law Societies and the Sustainable Development Law and Policy Brief. With the backing of Program professors, students in these organizations: • Publish an annual legal periodical • Run conferences and networking events • Participate in annual moot court competitions in energy law, domestic environmental law, and international environmental law • Research and write policy-relevant papers, often in coordination with advocacy organizations • Extern on Capitol Hill, in executive agencies, and at environmental NGOs, trade associations, and firms, and • Attend international meetings, such as UN climate change negotiations, meetings of the parties to various wildlife conventions, and the annual meeting of the World Bank Group EMAIL: peel@wcl.american.edu
