Play. Learn. Grow.

About us

Originally founded as Harlem RBI, DREAM traces its beginnings to 1991, when a group of volunteers transformed an abandoned, garbage-strewn lot into two baseball diamonds for the youth of East Harlem. Over three decades later, we serve thousands of children across East Harlem and the Bronx through a network of free DREAM Charter Schools and afterschool and summer programming. From our schools to our playing fields, DREAM is committed to building a team where each individual can bring their full identity and experience to work because representation matters. We are dedicated to creating a world where youth, especially youth of color, have permission to dream—along with the tools and opportunities to make their dreams reality.

  • What does it mean for a school to truly know a student? For Angelica Rodriguez, it means everything. Every morning, she passes five other schools to bring her son Craig to DREAM because she knows it’s where he’ll get exactly what he needs to thrive. From his love of dance to his big emotions, Craig is seen and supported every day. At DREAM, we believe families are our most critical partners. From home visits to daily communication, we’re building relationships that ensure every child feels known, seen, and loved. Today, your gift can go twice as far! Thanks to a generous matching challenge, every dollar donated will be matched, up to $100,000. Help us continue providing the individualized support and opportunities that every DREAM family deserves. Donate today and make the DREAM difference!

  • Meet Hanji, a member of our Culinary Club! Hanji loves to cook. So when we offered Culinary Club this year, he joined right away. In Culinary Club, Hanji is learning real kitchen skills like cutting, proper food handling and food preservation, but he’s also learning life skills like communication, teamwork, and respect. We know that food is proven to have a direct impact on student achievement and their short and long-term success in school and life. This #GivingTuesday, you can support students like Hanji to build healthy habits and skills for success in school and life. We’re honored to spotlight one of our incredible board members, Stefanie Katzman, featured in the October issue of Produce Business Magazine! Seven years ago, Stefanie joined the DREAM community, inspired by our mission to support the “whole child”—academically, socially, and physically. Her passion for children’s nutrition has been instrumental in shaping our scratch food program, ensuring students enjoy healthy meals while learning the importance of nutrition—laying the groundwork for lifelong wellness. Stefanie’s unwavering commitment to DREAM reflects her drive to create meaningful, generational change. From mentoring teams to collaborating with partners like Brigaid to elevate our food programs, Stefanie embodies leadership that inspires and transforms.
