  • Freedom House Ambulance: The Pioneers of Modern EMS During the 1960s, emergency medical response in the U.S. was unreliable, often handled by police or funeral homes with little medical training. In response to this, Freedom House Ambulance Service was established in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1967 as the first modern EMS program in the country. This groundbreaking initiative was led by Dr. Peter Safar, known as the "father of CPR," and aimed to provide structured, medically trained ambulance care. The program primarily recruited Black Men and Women from Pittsburgh’s Hill District, training them extensively in emergency medicine—far surpassing what was standard at the time. Key Contributions: First to provide advanced pre-hospital care with paramedics trained in CPR, intubation, IV administration, and more. Laid the foundation for modern EMS systems used nationwide today. Created opportunities for Black professionals in healthcare, challenging racial barriers in emergency medicine. Despite their success, the program was shut down in 1975 due to political and systemic challenges. However, their contributions live on—Freedom House inspired the national EMS standards we rely on today. Their legacy reminds us of the importance of diversity, innovation, and equitable healthcare access. This #BlackHistoryMonth, we honor their pioneering spirit and lasting impact on emergency medical services. #CelebrateBlackHistory #Diversity #Equity #Inclusion #WeInsureRisk

🌍✨ Wishing you a Mindful World Mental Health Day ✨🌍 Today, we come together to raise awareness about mental health and emphasize its importance in our lives and workplaces. As leaders, we believe it’s crucial to foster a supportive environment for our teams and clients alike. Mental health is just as important as physical health, and we must prioritize open conversations and accessible resources. Here are a few ways we can promote mental wellness: Create a Supportive Culture: Encourage open dialogue about mental health and provide a safe space for employees to share their experiences. Offer Resources: Make mental health resources available, from counseling services to stress management workshops. Lead by Example: As leaders, we should model healthy habits and emphasize the importance of self-care. Let’s work together to break the stigma surrounding mental health and ensure everyone feels valued and supported. Together, we can create healthier workplaces and communities. #WorldMentalHealthDay #MentalHealthMatters #SupportEachOther #InsuranceCommunity #WellnessInWorkplace #NotYourAverageBroker #PatriotGrowthInsurance

  • ******WWOPD****** 🌟 Welcome October! 4th Quarter is Here! 🌟 Some people are searching for the best apple cider donut or pumpkin spice latte, but here, we are prepped and asking ourselves, "What would Olivia Pope do?" As we step into the final stretch of the year, it's crucial to recognize that our time is more valuable than ever. This is the moment to reassess our priorities, streamline our schedules, and focus on what truly matters. Whether that means transforming meetings into concise emails, negotiating for more time, or simply saying "no" to distractions, it's all about making our time count. At SDL + GHS, we're committed to thinking outside the box and tackling the 4th quarter with the same determination and flair as Olivia Pope. Let’s finish the year strong! 💪✨ #4thQuarter #TimeManagement #Prioritize #TeamWork #SDL #GHS #WeInsureRisk #NotYourAverageBroker #WeDontThinkOutsideOfTheBoxWeBreakIt

  • It was a year ago today, that fires devastated the #Lahina & many parts of #Maui. While we take a moment to remember those who lost their lives & their homes, I would like to share again, a personal point of view, from one of our employees who lives in #Hawai'i and grew up on #Maui. Jael has been with our agency for over 10 years and her heartfelt story will move you.

The fires on Maui are in the hearts and minds of everyone around the country. We've got a personal tie here with one of our team members who lives in Hawai’i and was raised on Maui, Jael. Jael has been with the agency for over 12 years as part of our family and works on our finance team. For the last week, she has been working to gather clothing and other essentials to get to those in need. . As an agency, we’ve donated to Jael’s nonprofit of choice, Maui United Way: https://lnkd.in/gmwNQHUj . There are other ways to donate online and in kind and we urge our peers and business leaders, to donate to the people of Maui. As part of this call to action – we asked Jael to talk about OHANA and it gives us great honor to be able to share this with you – you can access this moving piece at the link below. .
