Today, episode #138 dropped! Can exercise professionals become a cornerstone of healthcare? Discover how we're working to make this vision a reality as we reflect on our journey since 2021. Learning from all our amazing guests over the past three and a half years has taught us the importance of policy and system changes to integrate exercise professionals into healthcare delivery. As we move towards 2025, the focus remains on keeping you, our listeners, informed and proactively identifying opportunities for you to engage in that cement exercise professionals as vital healthcare stakeholders. Physical inactivity is an epidemic with far-reaching health and economic ramifications. Explore how the Physical Activity Alliance (PAA) is committed to reshaping the healthcare paradigm in America by embedding exercise professionals into healthcare delivery. As the president of the PAA, our host, Michael Stack, emphasizes the importance of awareness and collaboration with stakeholders to transform how society views physical activity. We aim to inspire listeners to embrace and promote movement as a critical component of health and well-being. In this episode, we outline our commitment to provide regular updates about ongoing efforts in physical activity policy and professionalization. 2 years ago today, episode #85 dropped! The objective reality is not enough people are physically active. We know that less than half of Americans get the recommended amount of physical activity (150 min/week). We also know that the fitness industry consistently serves less than 20% of the American public. Clearly, our current messaging around physical activity, movement, and exercise is not resonating with the vast majority of people (especially the people that need it the most). Our guest in episode 85, Janet Omstead, thinks there’s a way to change that by reframing the concept of exercise as play. That’s right, the thing we all loved to do as kids, but rarely do as adults, is how she views exercise when working with her clients. Her mission is to get all people (fitness professionals and the public at large) to start to operationalize this reframe into their life, as a way to get more people moving and enjoying the multiple health benefits of an active lifestyle. In this “playful” conversation, we’ll explore the principles Janet discusses in her book (appropriately named, “The Play Book: How To Get In The Habit Of Good Health”), and how fitness professionals can use these principles in their practice with their clients. More importantly, Janet will explain how this is an opportunity to reach a whole new market of potential clients with language that is more inclusive and approachable for the many people who aren’t engaging in physical activity and exercise right now. #fitness #fitpros #fitnessprofessionals #health #wellness #exercise #wellbeing

2 years ago today, episode #84 dropped! Improving overall wellbeing is the primary responsibility of any allied health professional. As fitness professionals, sometimes we narrow our focus to merely physical health (and fitness, in particular). Our guest in episode 84, Dr. Renee Exelbert, thinks fitness professionals should expand their consciousness of how they truly can help overall wellbeing and mental health. Dr. Exelbert is a practicing psychologist, who after her own battle with cancer, found exercise and movement to be a powerful tool to not only regain her physical health, but also to improve her mental health. This lived experience was so impactful for her, that she took the time to get her personal trainer certification and begin integrating exercise into her psychotherapy practice. In this episode, we’ll dive into the methodology she developed and uses on a daily basis in her practice with a wide range of individuals. This is such a powerful conversation for fitness professionals to hear. Dr. Exelbert really does an amazing job of taking what she does as a mental health professional and translating into actionable lessons and skills fitness professionals can use today in their work with clients. #fitness #fitpros #fitnessprofessionals #health #wellness #exercise #wellbeing
