As educational leaders and those committed to student mental well-being, we can create supportive environments by recognizing signs of anxiety, promoting open conversations, and modeling emotional intelligence. One conversation can be a lifeline for a young person who is struggling. Need additional support? We're proud to partner with The Kennedy Forum in its commitment to supporting youth mental health with the Wellness Together program - in-person and on-campus mental health services directly supporting students and educators. The statistics are alarming: 44% of high school students report persistent feelings of sadness and hopelessness, and only 56% of schools feel equipped to provide adequate mental health services. Our mission has never been more critical in the face of an unprecedented youth mental health crisis. We join with school district and education leaders (K-12 and university), standing shoulder-to-shoulder to support the mental health needs of students and staff when and where they need it most. California legislation (AB 56) requires social media warning labels to equip young people and their families with crucial information to make informed choices about social media engagement, thanks to California Attorney General Bonta and Assemblymember Bauer-Kahan. Social media's toll on our students' mental health is undeniable. Research shows a clear link between excessive social media use and increased anxiety, depression, and even suicidal ideation. Educators are on the frontlines witnessing the firsthand impact of social media on our students' well-being. Warning labels can be a powerful tool for raising awareness and sparking important conversations.
