Community Spotlight! This week we want to thank someone special. You! The community! The people of New Hope and Crystal! We are so thankful to have a group of people who believe in the importance of having a top-notch fire service that is able to serve at a high level. With the amount of trucks, equipment, training, and education that we can provide to the cities of New Hope and Crystal, none of it would be possible without the support of the people. We firefighters, consider ourselves tremendously lucky and pride ourselves on doing the most to ensure we are ready for anything at any moment. From each Chief, Captain, Lieutenant, and Firefighter at West Metro Fire-Rescue District, we thank the people of New Hope and Crystal! Enjoy some of our favorite moments this year with the pictures attached! 🚒🧑🚒

Shop for a Senior in our Community!!! West Metro Fire-Rescue District is very happy to announce that the "Be a Santa to a Senior" Program is back for 2024!!! West Metro Fire-Rescue District is very happy to announce that the "Be a Santa to a Senior" Program is back for 2024!!! We have a tree set up in the entry of West Metro Station 3 / HQ at 4251 Xylon Ave N in New Hope (across from HyVee) + another at the Starbucks in Crystal, 5596 West Broadway at the intersection of Bass Lake Road & West Broadway. If you would like to participate, please stop by one of these locations and pick up an "ornament" (gift list) from the tree, go shopping for the items listed on the ornament and return the gifts to either location in a gift bag with the ornament secured to the outside of the bag. We look forward to this being our most successful year ever in this program! Thank you for your consideration! 🎅🧑🚒🚒

Kahoot time! Ever wanted a firetruck to visit your neighborhood? How about receiving a swag bag from the fire department? Talk to a firefighter one on one? Well now is your chance! Remember that West Metro Fire will be putting out a Kahoot quiz for the community to take with their family every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month. There will always be a theme about fire safety and your local fire department. For those unfamiliar with Kahoot, you will need to download the app or log onto a computer (this can be done by scanning the QR code or clicking on the link) and once you are in, put in the passcode provided and take the quiz. The faster you are, the more right answers you get, and the more right answers in a row you get, your points will be maximized. The quiz will be available to the first 40 families (we may bump this up in the future) and is open from Thursday to Monday midnight. PLEASE make sure your team name is specific to your family and screenshot or take a picture if you are in 1st place for proof. ONE PLAY PER FAMILY PLEASE! On Tuesday morning, we will see who the winner is and post it on our social media, and then the winner will have to contact us and show proof that the team name is truly their family. From there, we will set up a firetruck for the neighborhood visit with a swag bag! (We can only honor a firetruck and swag bag for those who live in New Hope or Crystal) Our goal is to educate the community in different ways and hopefully, this accomplishes just that as well as creating a fun time for your family. Firefighter Spotlight! This week we are recognizing Captain Phil Maki. Phil is West Metro Station's 2 Captain and has taken the role to a new level. Phil has been with West Metro for 10 years and works full-time in New Hope as a shipping and receiving coordinator. Even with working long hours, he dedicates his time to serving the community at a high level. His style of training and patience with his younger crew is why he has had and will continue to have success in the fire service. Usually, when you have crews with less than 5 years of experience, there can be a larger learning curve on fire scenes. Phil has found a way to keep those curves to a minimum while providing the community with outstanding service every time. "O Captain! My Captain!" Why did Phil join West Metro? "I joined West Metro after wanting more of a challenge than I was getting out of my full-time job. I had lived in the community for more than 10 years and would see the “Now Hiring” signs around town. After discussing it with my family, I decided to go for it and handed in my application on the last day it was due with an hour to spare. I had no idea the decision would change my life in so many positive ways." Best part of West Metro: "The best part of being in the West Metro Fire is witnessing other firefighters' shared passion for the job. Even though this is a part-time job it is truly a calling to help others and sacrifice their time for people they do not know." Phil's advice for those wanting to join the next hiring: "Even though it is a huge investment of time and energy, it is well worth it and it is an amazing way to meet lifelong friends and make your family much larger, all while helping your fellow neighbors in the community. Not to mention it gets you out of the house!" Phil's shoutout: "I would like to give a special thank you to my wife Angie and 3 children Ethan, Ella, and Olivia. Without their love and support, my fire career would not have happened. Also a shout out to all who have helped me along the way- You know who you are and for all the peeps at Station 2- Thank you!" West Metro is very lucky to have Phil on our side and we can't wait for him to hit 20 years! 😉🧑🚒🚒

Fun Fire Fact Friday! Did you know space heaters should be plugged directly into the wall outlet? Never into a surge protector or an extension cord. They also need 3 feet of space all around them to ensure they don't start anything on fire. The more you know! 😉🧑🚒 (Post credit to Sparky the Fire Dog)
