“Hot take, but #Thanksgiving is my FAVORITE holiday! It makes me a little sad when others skip from spooky season straight to Christmas and don’t give Thanksgiving it’s flowers. I love Thanksgiving because: 1️⃣ Its message of giving thanks. It’s an intentional time to reflect and truly appreciate where you are, and 2️⃣ This holiday is so tied to my memories of family, where we’re able to come together, share a meal and sit in each other’s presence.   Thanksgiving is always celebrated at my parents’ house. My mom is the main chef/hostess of the family, (and we have a really big family), so every year, she orchestrates a meal that feeds around 30 people. I have really fond memories of being in the kitchen to help her cook when I was younger. It’s these moments by her side where I really learned a lot about cooking and finding my love for making something to nourish others. As I got older, I graduated to ‘sous chef’ (thank you), so now, I handle all the sides while my mom focuses on the turkey and other main proteins.   Our Thanksgiving lineup is pretty eclectic: We’ve got a healthy mix of traditional Thanksgiving and Vietnamese dishes, but one item that’s been a staple on our table for well over a decade now is the Brazilian cheese bread, or ‘pao de queijo’. My family doesn’t have Brazilian roots, but we tried it at a Brazilian restaurant once, LOVED IT, found a recipe online and started having that instead of traditional rolls. No secret recipe that’s been passed down or anything. Just a deep love for blending traditions, bread and cheese.😊 However you celebrate and honor the day, give thanks for having it. Earlier this year, we invested $1.75 million in edible educational gardens by awarding 583 Whole Kids Garden Grants to support more than 290,000 students in 50 U.S. states, Washington D.C., and nine Canadian provinces. Now, we are thrilled to announce that we are investing $498,000 to fund an additional 166 Garden Grants, which will serve more than 126,000 additional students.  This brings our 2024 Whole Kids Garden Grant investment to more than $2.24 million —that’s 749 grants serving more than 416,000 K-12th grade students in the U.S. and Canada! "I have been with Whole Foods Market for 10 years, starting in the Lynnwood, WA, store as a full-time Prepared Foods dishwasher at age 65. Since then, I have worked in six stores, holding various positions as a Salad Bar, Porter and Grocery Team Member.   I absolutely love the environment of our stores and the camaraderie of my fellow Team Members — there's nothing quite like it. Working at Whole Foods is one of the few things that gets me out of bed every morning. At 75, I have only missed work once due to COVID-19, but I'm pretty proud of my near-perfect attendance and have zero plans to slow down or retire anytime soon!
