A very short story about a deaf person attending an in-person meeting. She sits down where she has the best view of everyone in the meeting. She makes sure the glass or window is behind her. Every time the speaker changes, her head scans the room to find the new speaker. She can't tell which direction the voice comes from. She leaves the meeting feeling exhausted and maybe a little dizzy from watching the meeting disguised as a ping pong match. The end. That's why I prefer video meetings. I get the benefit of captions and speaker view puts the current speaker in front of me. Unless someone who isn't muted has a lot of noise coming from their end. This is why it's important to be on mute when not speaking. Unless it's just two people in the meeting. 🔔 Tap the profile bell to catch the next post 👉 Follow #MerylMots to find more content 🙏 I'm open to opportunities including speaking, training, consulting, part-time, and full-time. Thank you for any referrals or for reaching out to chat.

Women on the rise! "The most powerful shift may be that after years of favoring male leadership by sizable margins, workers indicate a growing preference for female bosses in their daily work life. Given the choice, more women under 50 said they would opt to work for a woman than a man, while 20-something men were nearly evenly split on their preference, according to a survey of nearly 6,000 U.S. adults by the Survey Center on American Life in August." https://lnkd.in/gtg6rM8H

Have you ever thought the term “differently-abled” is more appropriate to use than “disabled?” Have you ever used terms like “special needs" or handy-capable?” These terms might sound less offensive, but these euphemisms are seen by many in the disabled community as harmful. These terms are often used by non-disabled folks to feel more "comfortable" talking about disability — but they end up erasing our lived experiences. "Disabled" is not a bad word.. Using "differently-abled" suggests our value lies only in being "capable" in society’s eyes. But value isn’t tied to ability or productivity; it’s inherent in every person. Disabled people aren’t looking for a feel-good label. We’re looking for respect and a society that meets us where we are. 💪 VD: The video features two characters played by Jeremy, a white, non-binary, masc-presenting person with short blonde hair. The two characters have a conversation in a home. The first character is a masc-presenting person wearing an aqua-collored shirt - he cleans a lens on his camera. The second character is a femme-presenting person with a flowered shirt and big glasses. She starts setting up a diorama on a bookshelf but is interrupted. #SixDegrees #JeremyAndrewDavis #SayDisabled #Disability #DisabledAndProud #DisabilityAwareness #InclusionMatters #Accessibility #NothingAboutUsWithoutUs #Ableism #EndAbleism #DisabilityRights #StopTheStigma #DisabilityPride #DisabledNotInvisible #DisabilityJustice 🌟The Disability Allyship Series with Jeremy Andrew Davis has been honored as a finalist in the 2024 Anthem Awards!

It's a better world today than it was 10 years ago for people with disabilities. Think of the implications of self-driving cars for the Blind or mobility-challenged, AI assistants for the hard of hearing, and more that we probably haven't even imagined! https://lnkd.in/gqWDfUVf
