Direct Protection to Forests and Wildlife
About us
Wildlife Alliance’s mission: direct protection for forests and wildlife. We work directly with communities and governments to improve forest management and institute good governance to comprehensively address the destruction of nature and combat the illegal wildlife trade. Our programs in Southeast Asia fight forest crime in high biodiversity areas, and actively promote diversified agriculture, community-based ecotourism, and reforestation. We create economic incentives and build political will within communities to preserve the environment.

Let's protect our planet on International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer. The ozone layer shields us from harmful UV-B radiation. Carbon in the atmosphere threatens the ozone layer, but trees help by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen. Let's continue preserving the Cardamom Rainforest and planting more trees to safeguard our environment #wildlifealliance #InternationalDayForThePreservationOfTheOzoneLayer #CardamomsForever #Cambodia

We are pleased that Verra has lifted the hold on the Southern Cardamom REDD+ Project following an extensive 14-month review. After reexamining eight years of our work and independent audits, Verra found no non-conformities and has now: •Lifted the hold with immediate effect. •Reconfirmed that the project meets the VCS, CCB and SD VISta standards. •Approved actions for the project’s continuous improvement that go above and beyond the requirements of Verra’s standards. These actions – most of which have been implemented or are already underway – stem from our ongoing consultation with local communities and were planned prior to Verra’s review. They include measures to enhance communication between communities and forest rangers, engage pro bono legal support for communities, expand human rights training for rangers, and establish a new community-managed fund. Most importantly, the project continues to have strong community support. This year, 93% of participating community members voted in favor of the project. However, despite this support and today’s positive news, the Southern Cardamom REDD+ Project and all it has achieved is under threat. After more than a year on hold and unable to issue Verified Emissions Reductions (VERs), we have been implementing the project on a shoestring budget. During this time, threats to the forest persisted and thousands of local people looked to the project for funding to provide clean drinking water, increase food security, and for healthcare and education. Now that the hold has been lifted, we will do everything we can to meet this urgent need and deliver essential funding to the communities of the Southern Cardamoms - to continue to improve their situation while protecting this vital forest ecosystem. #Cambodia #WildlifeAlliance #SouthernCardamomREDD #CommunitySupport #Community https://lnkd.in/ghvY7m7x

Yesterday, on September 8th, 2024, marking International Literacy Day, we should remember that every student in rural areas deserves the chance to pursue higher education. Thanks to the Southern Cardamoms REDD+ Project, 16 of our scholars have been able to do so, with 5 of them graduating successfully this year. Additionally, the project has created 7 scholarship opportunities for students in rural areas to pursue a bachelor's degree and General English for 4 years. #wildlifealliance #InternationalLiteracyDay #scholarshipopportunities #Cambodia
