🎉 Congratulations to our Transportation Supervisor, Andrea Clarke! Her team received a well-deserved token of appreciation for their unwavering support of James City County's Community Leadership Service Program. Their efforts ensured seamless transportation for the 2024 CLS class so they could explore various venues and community opportunities within the Historic Triangle. The Community Service Leadership program educates current and prospective retirees on the local needs, people, governing bodies and key institutions; encouraging them to pursue volunteer leadership roles in the community. 📸 Pictured from left to right: Lisa A. On this Holocaust Remembrance Day, we were incredibly honored to welcome Holocaust Survivor & Journalist Frank Shatz to share his story with our residents and employees. After escaping from a Nazi slave labor camp, Mr. Shatz joined the underground anti-Nazi movement in Hungary, assisting fellow Jews to safety while hiding in plain sight. His story is one of great bravery, and he hopes that sharing it with others will ensure that no one forgets the Holocaust. You can find his book Reports from a Distant Place on Amazon to learn more about his fascinating story.

📣 We are excited to share that Governor Youngkin has appointed Williamsburg Landing resident, Leslie Bowie, to serve on the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorder Commission for the Commonwealth of Virginia! She will serve a four-year term. The Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Commission, established as an advisory commission in the executive branch of state government, assists people with Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders and their caregivers. An estimated 164,000 people in Virginia, age 65 and older, are living with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia. The commission, consisting of 15 non-legislative citizen members, has developed the Virginia Dementia State Plan 2024-2027—Building a Dementia-Capable Virginia. Plan objectives include increasing awareness and promoting dementia-specific training, coordinating quality dementia services within the State, enhancing brain health, and addressing modifiable risk factors for dementia. Leslie, a volunteer for the Alzheimer’s Association Southeastern chapter for more than 12 years, states, “I am excited to be a part of this dedicated group and look forward to working with the Commission to raise awareness.” In addition to her newly appointed position with the Commission, Leslie has spearheaded Alzheimer’s Association events throughout the years at Williamsburg Landing. With support from fellow Landing residents, she continues to organize these efforts for 2024. We congratulate Leslie on this exciting new opportunity with the Commission and thank her for her continued work at Williamsburg Landing to support the Alzheimer's Association.💜
