Nerdio + AVD vs. Citrix: The VDI Showdown You Didn't Know You Needed At Windup Solutions, we're always looking for the best ways to streamline your virtual desktop infrastructure. Let's break down two heavyweight contenders: Nerdio + Azure Virtual Desktop: 👍 Cost-effective for smaller deployments 👍 Native integration with Microsoft 365 👍 Simplified management through Nerdio 👎 RDP protocol limitations 👎 Potential Azure egress costs for heavy users (this is highly ignored when businesses compare costs on paper) Citrix: 👍 Superior ICA protocol for better user experience 👍 Advanced security features 👍 Mature management tools 👎 Higher upfront costs 👎 Steeper learning curve The kicker? Using AutoScale, Citrix can actually help optimize those Azure costs, potentially saving you more in the long run (assuming cloud-based workloads). But here's the real scoop: It's not about which is 'better.' It's about what fits YOUR business like a glove. Are you a 250-employee firm juggling complex apps/desktops and high-security needs? Citrix might be your jam. Running a lean 100-person operation with mostly Microsoft apps? Nerdio + AVD could be your ticket to simplicity. At Windup Solutions, we don't just throw tech at you and send a bill – we wind up the right solution for your unique needs and maintain a genuine relationship for years to come. Simplicity vs. Complexity: Why mid-sized businesses don't need AI-driven, hyper-converged, multi-cloud solutions for their digital workspace needs. Sometimes, less is more. Agree or disagree? #ITSimplification #BusinessIT #Cloud #HybridCloud ##OnPrem #MultuCloud #Virtualization #AI #HCI #SMB

The Dessert Wars! There's a lot of pressure on Business IT to deliver cost savings while still providing secure and reliable VDI for their users. If your company has between 100-500 users, you're sort of in the confusion zone of which solution to get: something for SMB or enterprise. Nerdio and Citrix are strong contenders in the VDI space. Check out our recent blog article that gives you the 30,000 foot view of which virtualization solution might be better for you. https://lnkd.in/ddFHZdtE Citrix Nerdio #citrix #nerdio #vdi #virtualization #dessertwars #businessit #windows #euc #windup #windupsolutions #itsolutions #microsoft #azure #entra #hybridcloud #cloud #onpremises #hci #workspace #digitalworkspace #remotework

The rise of cloud-based EUC solutions is transforming how businesses approach security and remote work. But are these solutions overkill for companies with 100-500 employees? Let's discuss the pros and cons. #CloudComputing #DigitalWorkspace #Virtualization #EndUserComputing #EUC #Cloud #HybridCloud #Cybersecurity #RemoteWork #Remote

https://lnkd.in/db8FSYGV Wrapping up 2024 means looking ahead. There's so much "stuff" being thrown at you to try. Cloud this and AI that. Vendor sprawl and good idea fairies abound. Do you have automation in place, because blah blah blah. It can be a bit overwhelming, but the simplest solution is and always has been the right choice. You might be an IT Director, VP of Technology, or a CIO/CTO. You're unsure of what solution delivers the best value, helps you keep your job, fills you with purpose, and ultimately meets the business' needs for 2025. Here are my recommendations: + Stay simple + Use the solution that meets your needs and not the one that sounds "cool" + Run the possible solution past an outsider for an objective opinion + Be methodical and patient + Remember to have fun #vdi #bestpractices #businessit #leadingpractices #businesssolutions #windupsolutions #windup #consulting #hybridcloud #cloud #onpremise #virtualization #businessneeds #it #technology #smb #staysimple

Will VDI still be relevant in 2025? While some claim it's outdated, we're seeing a resurgence in interest among mid-sized businesses. (Cloud isn't as cheap as they thought - aka egress costs) What's your take on the future of virtual desktop infrastructure? #VDI #DigitalWorkspace #Virtualization #Windup #Cloud #HybridCloud #OnPrem #Windupsolutions

https://lnkd.in/dAN-i9jf In 1985, we already began wondering what it'd be like to work away from the office. In 2020, COVID turned that into a reality. We worked at home by force, and while it was an interesting experience, it wasn't awesome for everyone. It might seem self deprecating to talk of the moral and financial impacts on a person or business to having technologies like remote VDI, but we don't want to deliver technology for technologies' sake. Windup works closely with your leadership to ensure that the solution we deliver meets the needs of the business and its people. #remotework #vdi #windup #windupsolutions #business #technology #remoteaccess #businesssolutions #businessstrategy #consulting

Yeah, but how great is it to work all day in your pajamas, without brushing your teeth, and staying close to the fridge? Great ideas like posting vendor EOLs in one place makes us happy! Thanks, Ben Ward !! #eol #microsoft #vmware #horizon #citrix #ivanti #cvad #vdi #infrastructure #software #windup #windupsolutions #shamelessrepost
Apparently there's an election on 🤷♂️ I don't know much about that. If you want to see lines of red and blue that keep you on track rather than fill you with dread, check out this community EUC Software Lifecycle Dashboard. Thanks to Steven Gallagher for providing Citrix EOL dates and Darren Hirons for helping out with the Omnissa portfolio 👏 As always, double check EOL / EOS data with your vendors rather than a tool I created around the pool on holiday in Florida 😎 Link in the first comment ;)

What would it be like to run two hypervisors in your infrastructure at one time? https://lnkd.in/dh2pv_b3 Recent concerns around hypervisor cost management for clients have me thinking: What if you could run two hypervisors in parallel? One hypervisor could be for core servers, and the other could be to manage virtual desktops and apps. Citrix Hypervisor and/or XenServer best manages VDI stacks anyway, and it's significantly less expensive than VMware or Nutanix. What do you guys, think? Run two hypervisors to manage costs and optimize workloads, or is it too complicated to have vendor sprawl in your hosts? #vmware #nutanix #microsoft #citrix #hypervisor #infrastructure #consulting #design #architecture #itsupport #datacenter #esxi #xenserver #acropolis
