Meet Officer Douett, recognized for her commitment to the safety of Metro customers and employees. In 2023, she received a call from a station manager who had been assaulted. Officer Douett quickly located the assailant and made the arrest. “Skills that helped me are, number one, training. Number two, I work along many great officers who are excellent mentors,” she said. “Number three, constructive criticism, which allows me to learn different approaches.” Are you looking for mentorship in a highly rewarding career? Metro and Casey Trees have partnered to plant more than 150 trees at Suitland and Southern Avenue stations. On Saturday, 25 Metro employees, 25 community members, and Prince George’s County Council Member Krystal Oriadha volunteered their time to plant trees at Suitland Avenue Station. Planting trees provides many benefits, including: 🌲 Improving air quality 🌲 Supporting mental and physical health 🌲 Enhancing aesthetics of the area 🌲 Shading and air cooling 🌲 Reducing stormwater runoff, biodiversity and ecological health, and helping to mitigate climate change The additional tree plantings will take place in the spring and fall of 2025. Did you know Metro has the most elevators and escalators of any transit system in North America? Meet Anthony, one of our dedicated Vertical Transportation Safety Inspectors. He ensures our elevators and escalators are operating safely and efficiently. In 2021, Metro kicked off its second escalator replacement project, aiming to replace 139 escalators across 34 stations by 2028. These new escalators are more durable, reliable, and feature LED lighting and UV-C disinfection. Anthony plays a crucial role in making sure our vertical transportation equipment stays in a state of good repair, following all jurisdictional rules and regulations. We’re lucky to have him on our team! #wmata

Metro's Art in Transit program invites artists/artist teams with a demonstrated history of completing complex, permanent, public art projects to submit their qualifications for a permanent public artwork for the Dupont Circle Metro Station’s iconic North Entrance. The selected artists will develop an aesthetically attractive, site-specific public artwork that captures WMATA’s mission, and reflects the artistic, cultural and/or historical interests of the surrounding communities. The public artwork is to be implemented on the sloped surface within the circular opening of the North Entrance escalator well and integrate elements of biophilia.
