In november, Omrop Fryslân made the long trip to the province Antwerp, to check out a wolf deterrent fence. 👌 The horse pasture was adjusted by our team one week prior to the visit. Next to this, the livestock owner was so friendly to give some advice to our northern neighbors. 💚 Curious what they had to say about the visit? About us
The Wolf Fencing Team Belgium is a volunteer network, consisting of stakeholders and individuals from various backgrounds and organizations, who aim to support livestock farmers through practical and technical assistance in the transition associated with the return of the wolf. With practical assistance, we assist livestock farmers in and around wolf territories in Belgium. This ranges from introductory and advisory visits to the actual installation of wolf-repelling fencing. Additionally, we also assist with paperwork, such as providing advice on applying for subsidies and obtaining quotations.

In October we welcomed De Dierenbescherming in Limburg! 💚 🌍 We showed them a behind the scenes of 'Wolf Fencing Team Belgium'. We started with the origins of the team, how it is going now and our future goals. But even more excitingly, we visited the team that was adapting a fence to be wolf deterrent and met one of the livestock owners we helped in the past. Below, you can take a look at the result: https://lnkd.in/e8rRDzHT Or read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/e-FUWux2 #coexistence #wolfdeterrentfencing #wolffencingteambelgium #dierenbeschermingNL #exchange

⭐Today, it is 'International Volunteer Day'! ⭐ Important for our team as we can rely on more than 80 volunteers for the terrain work to adjust fences to be wolf deterrent. 💚 The team is highly skilled and passionate as they don't shy away from rain, wind, snow... Luckily, they can enjoy a rainbow as well from time to time! 🌈😂 Thanks to their dedication and enthusiasm, they help create a sustainable coexistence between humans, livestock, and wolves. 🌍 💪 A heartfelt thank you to everyone who makes this possible! #volunteers #wolffencingteambelgium #coexistence #thankyou

Last week we welcomed news reporters from Omrop Fryslân. They took a close look at a wolf deterrent fence that was adapted by our team, listened how WFTB was established and currently runs. But most importantly, they had an insightfull conversation with the livestock owner who shared his own experiences and advice!

Exchange with De Dierenbescherming 👌 Last week, a few team members from Dierenbescherming and policy officers crossed the border to get an up-close look at WFTB. We started with an detailed presentation about the team: how things started, a close look behind the curtains, few lessons learned and the current challenges/successes. ✍ After all this, it was time to get into the field and visit the the team members who were adjusting a fence to be wolf deterrent in the neighbourhood. 💪 It was a great opportunity to see the theory put into practice! We wrapped up the day with a visit to a livestock owner. WFTB adjusted their fences, a couple of years ago, to be wolf deterrent. It was an great day with engaging conversations! 💚

On Saturday, September 7th our last training day took place. It was the perfect moment to practice and fine-tune various techniques! 💪 In the afternoon, we had an educational and engaging session on wolf monitoring in Flanders. Big thanks to INBO (Research Institute for Nature and Forest - Instituut voor Natuur- en Bosonderzoek) for the valuable insights into this important work! In between all of this, there was still time to enjoy the beautiful weather and a delicious barbecue! 🍔 🌞 It was an enriching day with the WFTB- team! 💚 Curious to learn more about our team? Last week, we adapted a fence in Northern Antwerp to be wolf deterrent. That is already our 25th fence in the riskzone of Northern Antwerp. In february 2024, we started actively adapting fences in this area! 😎 A journalist of 'Gazet van Antwerpen' came to visit. You can read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eV5cftAX

Last Tuesday we welcomed the Wolf committee of Gelderland. They visited us to learn more about our operations and to explore the possibility of implementing a similar project in Gelderland. We provided detailed explanations about our work, the start-up of the WFTB, the roles of each one of our team members, how our terrain days are organized and importantly the lessons we’ve learned throughout the years. Also, a big thank you to Dries Gorissen and Koen Driesen from Agentschap voor Natuur en Bos for presenting the Flemish Wolf Policy. Afterwards we visited a livestock owner in the region where our team had previously adapted the fences to be wolf deterrent. We had some interesting discussions but it was heartwarming to see that everyone wants to put in the effort to strive for a harmonious coexistence between humans, wolves and livestock! 💚 🌍 Ofcourse, we had to wrap up the day with some delicious Belgian fries. We wish our Northern neighbours a lot of luck and encouragement! We are looking forward to the next visit!
