We’re proud to honor and support veterans, both in the community and on our team. In recognition of their service, we’re featuring their stories throughout Veterans and Military Families Month. Michael Courtney, PMP, our Director of Enterprise Project Management, joined our firm last October after retiring from the Coast Guard in September 2023. On Active Duty in the Coast Guard for 20 years, Michael served four years of sea duty driving ships and conducting counter narcotics operations off the coast of South and Central America and search and rescue operations off Alaska and in the Caribbean. His last assignment was as a Deputy Commander, where he led 400+ Active Duty and Civilians conducting all Coast Guard missions across the northern Great Lakes region. Over his long career at the Coast Guard, Michael’s favorite assignment was in Talent Management, providing career guidance and issuing assignment orders for service members and their families. This job holds special importance for Michael as it gave him the opportunity to help his fellow Coasties continue to grow in their profession and, when necessary, help them address exceptional family needs. And Michael isn’t the only veteran in his family. His wife proudly served five years in the Navy and is a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Thank you both for your service.

Big win for Penn State in the courtroom. In what likely caused the trademark community to breathe a sigh of relief, a jury found that Vintage Brands willfully violated Penn State University's trademarks by selling merchandise with vintage logos. Despite Vintage's claims of non-affiliation, the jury wasn't convinced. Written by Sara Bauer https://bit.ly/3Z3lP58

November is Veterans and Military Families Month, and we’re incredibly proud to call many veterans our team members and friends. During the day today, we’ll be featuring some of the members of our firm who have made exceptional contributions not only to our team, but also to our country. An active member of the military veterans’ community, Robert “Al” Broadbent served for 23 years as an active-duty U.S. Army Judge Advocate, where he provided legal support to a variety of Army units, including Special Operations Forces, the 82nd Airborne Division, and a Special Mission Unit. Al served as the sole unit legal advisor on multiple combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. Prior to retiring from active duty in 2016, he was hand selected to serve as the first active-duty Army Judge Advocate to serve as an Assistant General Counsel at NGA. Thank you for your service, Al.
