The Women in Leadership program is thrilled to celebrate the accomplishments of Varshashree Dasuratha, who is nearing the completion of her internship with Real Intent. Reflecting on her journey, Varshashree describes the experience as both challenging and rewarding—a remarkable opportunity for growth and learning. Despite Real Intent being a smaller workplace, she highlights the incredible camaraderie of her colleagues, noting their unwavering support and collaborative spirit. This nurturing environment, coupled with her exceptional performance, has led to exciting news: Varshashree has been offered a full-time position as a Trainee R&D Engineer, marking the beginning of her professional journey with Real Intent. Varshashree extends her heartfelt gratitude to the WIL program for facilitating a key introduction to Prakash, which proved instrumental in securing her first job. Her story is a testament to the power of mentorship, networking, and resilience. We look forward to welcoming Varshashree to the WIL launch event for the new batch of fellows and associates, where her journey will undoubtedly inspire others. Congratulations, Varshashree, on this well-deserved achievement!

#GivingTuesday Tomorrow is #GivingTuesday, a global day of generosity and impact! At Women in Leadership (WIL), we've been privileged to support 40 Fellows and Associates. We have hosted an annual WIL Forum for discussions, debate and shared learning. We have build a vibrant community of students, alumni, faculty and leaders. We have welcomed over 100 C-Suite leaders on campus for students to see what they can become. We have engaged in community service and seeded leadership projects for good. None of this would be possible without our incredible donors, sponsors, and volunteers. We are truly grateful for your support in empowering the next generation of women leaders. This #GivingTuesday, we invite you to continue this journey with us. Your contribution, no matter the size, helps us nurture future leaders and create lasting change. The Women in Leadership (WIL) program has had a profound impact on Vinmathi Iyappan’s career, particularly in developing her leadership skills and deepening her understanding of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). Through the program, she learned how to integrate DEI values into decision-making and team dynamics, shaping her aspirations to create more inclusive environments in future leadership roles. Mentorship was a cornerstone of her experience. Paired with Shirin Hasan as her mentor, Vinmathi received invaluable encouragement and support, building a relationship she deeply values to this day. The program also offered enriching networking opportunities, access to influential speakers, and meaningful connections, which she highly recommends to anyone considering WIL. Since completing the program, Vinmathi has achieved significant career milestones. She is currently a Data Analyst Intern at the California Department of Public Health and a Research Scholar collaborating on a project analyzing the impact of epilepsy in the workplace. Her next goal is to secure a full-time Data Scientist position where she can apply her skills to make a meaningful, data-driven impact. In the next 3-5 years, she aims to take on leadership roles, contributing strategically to foster positive change. Vinmathi suggests growing the WIL program by increasing the fellowship size and hosting larger events to reach and inspire more aspiring leaders. We’re excited to see where her journey takes her next!

As we work on reviewing our current set of applications for the WIL Fellowship we are catching up with our previous Fellows. Ria Maharaj WIL Fellow "24 has many updates to share. After completing her time with Women In Leadership, Ria graduated with a bachelor’s in Health Science. Since then, she has pursued her passion for uplifting individuals from underserved and underrepresented communities. Ria works as a community healthcare worker for Alameda Family Health Services within their school-based program. In her position, she is able to connect with adolescents by educating them on behavioral and emotional support and directing them to resources for sensitive care services. What Ria took away from her time with Women in Leadership was the mentorship experience and the lessons learned. Her mentor was Vanessa Valerio, RN,CMC , CHCA, the Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Care Indeed. Vanessa embodies a kind, driven, and empathetic leader, and Ria could feel the same way after having multiple conversations with her clients. One conversation that interested Ria with Vanessa was when a conversation with a research participant did not go as expected. Vanessa pointed out that adapting is essential in many cases because you cannot always expect an out, and she was so right! Being in healthcare, you can be trained and feel well-prepared, and a task may become easy, but one thing about healthcare is that it is never linear. You need to adapt to help support each unique individual. Ria is so grateful that this skill set was one that she could strengthen before going into the work field. At the school based health center she is able to provide mentorship to a group of teens who are a part of a Youth Advisory Board, sharing her knowledge of Public Health and research.
