Middlesex College is offering a free certification program to train patient care technicians in the high-demand field of in-patient nursing care. Students enrolled in the in-person course will learn to provide care and perform EKG and phlebotomy skills required of those caring for hospitalized patients. Funded by a grant from the New Jersey Community College Consortium (NJ Community Colleges) under the New Jersey Pathways to Career Opportunities initiative, the program will cover tuition, fees, textbooks, uniforms, equipment, and certification exams for qualified students. “Through this program, a student can receive three national certifications in phlebotomy, EKG, and PCT, which positions them well for the job market. The program will focus on helping students learn in-patient nursing care and how to develop relationships with their patients,” said Natasha James-Waldon, executive director of Workforce Development and Lifelong Learning.
