“I believe that every child is important and every child has the right to learn in an inclusive environment.” This year, Dr. Katie Bonawitz, Associate Dean of Education at Bethel University, visited Lithuania twice as part of the #FulbrightSpecialist Program. Dr. Bonawitz's work in Lithuania focused on promoting inclusive education for students with disabilities. She delivered keynote addresses, conducted workshops, and partnered with the Lithuanian Center for Inclusion in Education and the National Agency for Education to implement long-term disability awareness initiatives. Jesslyn is studying to be a marine biologist, and her UGRAD experience took her to the ocean, where she was tasked with tagging sharks off the coast of Florida. Tagging technology allows scientists to monitor shark populations and track their movements, supporting effective #conservation practices. The #GlobalUGRAD Program brings student leaders from over 60 countries to the United States for a one-semester, non-degree exchange at U.S. higher education institutions. Last month, World Learning experts held a workshop as part of our Local Expertise Advancing Development (LEAD) model, designed to elevate local voices and highlight innovations across our country offices. Originally piloted in Mongolia to connect and empower local organizations, the LEAD model is now being applied internally to strengthen knowledge sharing and skills within our global teams. In the workshop, colleagues from around the world shared lightning talks on curriculum development and monitoring & evaluation (M&E), exchanging valuable insights, tools, and strategies to amplify local impact. A big thank you to our incredible presenters and participants for their energy and expertise.
